LONGMEADOW, Mass. – -(AmmoLand.com)- Honored American Veterans Afield (H.A.V.A.) along with the Pinetucky Gun Club recently hosted a shooting event for the Ft. Gordon Warrior Transition Battalion in Augusta, Georgia. In all, some 24 wounded soldiers participated in the event along with 15 companies from the outdoor industry. Thirty Pinetucky Gun Club members served as Warrior Sponsors and shot with the soldiers.

The shooting event featured two-man teams consisting of a wounded warrior and a shooting sponsor in a three-gun competition with awards provide to the top three teams. Georgia State Single Action Shooting Society (SASS) Champions also hosted a three-gun cowboy stage with awards for top shooters as well. The event was concluded with a dinner and raffle drawing, where participants walked away with various prizes donated by HAVA sponsors.

“Our Soldiers will be talking about this weekend for months to come,” said WTB Commander, Lt. Col. Everett L. Sharpe, who participated in his first HAVA event. “The event was a first-class operation with the friendliest staff and contributors we have ever experienced.”

Tom Taylor, HAVA Chairman, extended his gratitude to all the people who participated in the event saying, “It continues to be an amazing process to see the out-pouring of support that has been provided to these American heroes who have given so much for our country. Each and every HAVA event has been the source of numerous touching stories, depicting the courage shared by the men and women of our armed services. At Pinetucky, HAVA was fortunate to have a father and son shooting team who both served in and were wounded during the 2nd Gulf War. Their story of healing and camaraderie is a prime example of why we feel this effort is so important.”

HAVA is an organization that was formed by companies in the shooting and outdoor industry with the purpose of raising awareness and further assisting disabled veterans with their healing process through hunts, shooting sports and other outdoor sports activities.
