Rock Island Auction Company – -(AmmoLand.com)- Manufactured in 1866, this Colt Model 1861 revolver has had the barrel shortened to its present length, probably period, and the loading lever assembly removed.

A brass blade front sight has been installed. “COLT NEW – YORK U.S. AMERICA” remains on the barrel address, the left side of the frame is marked “COLTS / PATENT” and the left trigger guard shoulder is marked “36 CAL”.

The right side of the frame is marked “PAUL D. THOMAS, / ASH FORK, ARIZ.” just below the cylinder and “1824” just ahead of the grip. The cylinder is roll engraved with the Texas naval battle scene.

The matching serial number appears on the barrel, frame, trigger guard and back strap, the partial serial number “106” is marked on the cylinder. Fitted with one piece smooth walnut grips.

Condition:
Good as period modified. The metal surfaces have a smooth brownish-gray patina. There are a few minor dings on the barrel and several tiny dings around the wedge. The brass has an aged patina with strong original silver in protected areas.

The grips are very good with only a few minor dings, dents and handling marks. The cylinder scene is weak, but visible. The barrel address is faint and the other markings clear.

The action is fine. From the Will Hoffeld collection, purchased from Dubuque in June 1956. ( See RIA Auction for Exact Condition Details)
