EXETER, NH –-(Ammoland.com)- Team SIG Captain, Max Michel, is two steps closer to becoming the first pro shooter in history to win all eight United States Practical Shooting Association (USPSA) Area Championships in a single year.

Michel won his fifth Open Division USPSA Area title of the 2010 competitive season at the Area 7 Championships, held in Fulton, NY on August 5-8th, 2010. Teammate Matt Cheely also had a notable match at the Area 7, coming in second place in the Production Division. This past weekend Michel also took home his sixth Championship at the 2010 Hornady Area 3 Championship Match, held in Grand Island, NE on August 6-8th, 2010.

To become the Area 7 Champion in the Open Division, Michel won five of the nine stages, finishing above the 81 division competitors with a score of 853.4390, or 100%. Placing in the top five within each of the 14 stages in the Area 3 Open Division, Michel won nine stages and came in second in three stages, beating 55 of his division competitors with a score of 1813.8112, or 100%.

“Competing in two Major Championships in the same weekend is grueling. Dealing with flight delays and missing bags only adds to the challenge,” commented Michel. “However, I’m excited to remain on track as I am now six for six on all USPSA Area Championships for the 2010 season.”

Matt CheelyJoining Michel at the Area 7 Championship, Teammate Matt Cheely came in second overall among a field of 64 competitors in the Production Division with a score of 832.4648, or 97.34%. Cheely secured first place finishes in three of the nine pistol stages of the Production Division.

“The 2010 Area 7 Championship was an enjoyable match. It was a great mix of stages that tested many skills,” commented Cheely.

“I won four of the nine stages on the way to a second place finish. Unfortunately I had a miss on two stages, and it was enough to put the win out of reach. Area 8 is next up on the schedule and I am looking forward to it.”

Michel’s next competition is the Steel Challenge World Speed Shooting Championship in Piru, CA on August 19-21, 2010. Cheely will be competing in the USPSA Area 8 Championship held August 26-29, 2010 at the Fredericksburg Rod and Gun Club in Fredericksburg, VA.
