Masterpiece Arms Tips on 22LR Ammunition Selection

Maybe you are experiencing a common problem with any .22 gun: the ammo you are shooting with.
.22LR ammo, due to the inconsistencies in shape, velocity, type, propellant, cases, etc. makes choosing ammo that will perform perfectly in a blowback designed weapon quite challenging. Combine this with the fact that you start off with ammo that comes from lots that can and do differ and you can see why firing any .22LR weapon consistently without failure is difficult.
MasterPiece Arms has shipped thousands of MPA22 pistols since their introduction in the spring of 2010. We occasionally receive calls from customers with feed issues, jams or other ammo related problems. Some have even returned the gun for repair due to one of these issues. Without fail, the guns returned have no issues and test fire without failure when loaded properly with one of the ammo choices shown below. We video tape each test, return the gun to the customer with our results and a copy of the video and typically, no further problems exist.
We spent months testing various grades of ammo that work best with the MPA22. Our ammo information, including the approved ammo list, is below.
We recommend new (not reloaded) quality ammunition. Quality ammunition helps to assure consistent performance.
For best performance, we recommend the Ammo listed below. Due to the nature of the design of the MPA22’s (designed originally as a Sub-Machine Gun), compression rates, timing, spring pressure, bullet geometry and profile, lubricity of the bullet and cartridge, and other factors, use of any ammo not on the approved list will cause less reliable feed/firing performance.
- Federal Series 745 Value Pack .22LR, Copper Plated HP, 1260 FPS, 36 Grain
- CCI Stingers, .22LR, High Velocity, Copper Plated HP, 1640 FPS, 32 Grain
Subsonic Ammo will not function properly in our weapon. Do not attempt to use this type ammo on any MPA Defender 22.
