COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. –-(Ammoland.com)- USA Shooting is proud to announce that in conjunction with the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit and the Columbus Visitors Bureau, USAS will host the 2011 International Paralympic Committee (IPC) World Cup USA Paralympic Qualifier.

The match will take place at the home of the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit in Fort Benning, Ga., from Oct. 3 to 9.

There are a total of 324 registered starts and 136 competitors from 26 federations. All twelve Paralympic events are viable for country quota slots to the 2012 Paralympic Games. This IPC sanctioned event is also an opportunity for all athletes to obtain a Minimum Qualifying Score (MQS) required for participation in the Paralympic Games.

“This is the second to last opportunity for many of these athletes and countries to achieve that all important quota slot for the Paralympic Games. The competition is going to be fierce because this competition is one necessary step in accomplishing those goals and dreams for a gold medal,” said Wanda Jewell, Chief of the Organizing Committee.

In its inaugural year on U.S. soil, National Paralympic Coach Bob Foth remarked that “hosting the match here allows more than 20 athletes to participate in a World Cup and provides USAS the opportunity to continue to train match staff on the Paralympic disciplines.”

He continued with, “The U.S. Team includes a good percentage of disabled service members and veterans as well as civilians and all are looking forward to this event.”
