Hollen Wins the Bronze in Mixed 50m Pistol IPC World Cup Sydney

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. –-(Ammoland.com)- At the 2011 International Paralympic Committee (IPC) World Cup Sydney, American athlete Eric Hollen (Colorado Springs, Colo.) brought home the USA’s first IPC World Cup medal of the year.

Hollen shot 521 match points in Mixed 50m Pistol SH1 (P4) to earn the opportunity to shoot in the final.

He faced a 14 point deficit from the leader, but didn’t let the gap distract him as he fired the highest final of 92.1 points to make up eight points on the gold medalist and win the bronze medal.

Hollen, last year’s Paralympic Athlete of the Year, is now a Resident Athlete at the U.S. Olympic Training Center and has been training hard for this match. The gold medalist was Juhee Lee of Korea with 619.7 total points and the silver medalist was Hungary’s Gyula Gurisatti with 617.7 total points.

American teammate Sergeant First Class Josh Olson (Spokane, Wash.) of the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit finished sixth overall in Mixed 10m Air Rifle Prone SH1 (R3). Olson fired 598 match points to tie six other shooters for only four spots in the final. With a shoot-off score of 52.4 points, he surged ahead with a strong final of 104.5 points for 702.5 total points.

It should be noted that the gold medalist, Jae Sim of Korea, equaled the world record with a perfect 600 points and 106.1 points in the final for 706.1 total points. The Koreans continued to sweep the podium with Jinho Park in the silver medal position at 704.8 total points and the bronze medalist, Youngjip Shim at 704.3 total points.
