USA Shooting Athletes to Compete in Milan in Final Pre-Olympic Tune-Up

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. –-(Ammoland.com)- Twenty-one USA Shooting athletes, including 10 Olympians, have arrived in Milan, Italy, for their final International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup event before the London 2012 Olympic Games.

This final pre-Olympic tune-up for Team USA will feature some of the world’s best rifle and pistol shooters. The action gets underway Tuesday with Men’s and Women’s 10m Air Rifle and will conclude Sunday, May 20 with Men’s 50m Free Pistol and 50m Prone Rifle.

At the ISSF “London Prepares”World Cup last month, Team USA won two medals and had six top-10 finishes. Two-time Olympic medalist Matt Emmons (Browns Mills, N.J.) finished with a team-best silver medal in his specialty event of Men’s Three-Position Rifle. Emmons will once again be competing in three events including Three-Position, Prone, and Air Rifle. Michael McPhail (USAMU/Darlington, Wis.) earned the team’s other medal in London, capturing a bronze medal in Prone Rifle. The Wisconsin native is set to shoot that event plus Three-Position as well.

Finalists from London competing in Milan will also include 1996 Olympian Eric Uptagrafft(USAMU/Phenix City, Ala.), a sixth-place finisher in Men’s Prone Rifle, and three-time Olympian Daryl Szarenski (WCAP/Seale, Ala.), who finished in the seventh position in Men’s 50m Free Pistol.

USA Shooting Team members participating will also be using the Milan World Cup as preparation for the upcoming 2012 Olympic Team Trials for Smallbore (.22 caliber) and the USA Shooting National Championships in Rifle and Pistol, May 30-June 11, in Ft. Benning, Ga. The final seven Olympic positions will be up for grabs at the headquarters of the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit (USAMU).
