No Guns Signs – Stupidity is a Most Useful Thing

Wisconsin –-(Ammoland.com)- It’s not every day that stupid people voluntarily identify themselves in a high visibility manner for all to see.

But that’s exactly what the anti-gun businesses all across Wisconsin are doing each time they hang a NO WEAPONS sign on their front door.

But just think what a golden opportunity this is — like the bumper sticker you’ll never see that reads, “Avoid me, I’m a careless and inattentive driver.”

Or a sign on a doctor’s office door that proclaims, “Notice: I cheated my way through medical school and spent the rest of the time sleeping off a hangover.”

Now, I don’t like the NO WEAPONS signs any more than you do. In fact, I dislike them so much I launched the WGO Don’t Buy List Program. This program aims to identify, expose, publicly shame, and boycott as many of these businesses across Wisconsin as possible. And it’s working, with more than three dozen businesses having had a change of heart and removing the signs so far.

Yet it’s hard to ignore the usefulness of the Don’t Buy List.

As of the date of this writing (April 2012), there are 802 businesses on that list. Do you know how popular those coupon books are? How much would you be willing to pay to see a list of businesses who hate your Constitutional rights and are managed by a bunch of arrogant dolts who would rather see you slaughtered in cold blood than be able to defend yourself? That would be priceless, would it not?

When a business posts a sign prohibiting those with concealed weapons permits from entering — people who have cleared an FBI background check and are essentially a private, all-volunteer citizen security force of good guys — you know you’re dealing with a business owner who is plum stupid.

Imagine advertising your antigun views in a state like Wisconsin where gun deer season is virtually a national holiday. That’s not the smartest marketing move one can make.

But if losing money isn’t reason enough to wise up, how about self-preservation? Surely the desire to live is compelling enough to make even these most intellectually bankrupt people change their asinine ways. Nope, they don’t get that, either. They freely advertise to every scoundrel in the city that they’re unarmed and an easy target. Now that’s dumb.

Those who manage Aldi’s grocery store in Milwaukee should have learned this tough lesson recently when they were robbed by a man wielding a shotgun. The robber was either illiterate and couldn’t read the NO WEAPONS sign Aldi’s had posted at the entrance, or he very well read the sign and ignored it — acting like every other criminal by targeting a location where no one could shoot back.

But someone did shoot back. A customer had entered despite the signs and was able to thwart the robbery because he carried a concealed handgun.

Aldi’s should have learned the lesson and removed the signs. They should have wised up. But based on the latest reports, they simply moved the signs from the outside door to an inside door (where they would be visible to fewer criminals?).

You see, even a brush with death or major tragedy wasn’t enough to make these stupid people see the error of their ways — they aren’t just stupid, but defiantly stupid. [its also called natural selection]

And so mine is a love-hate relationship with the NO GUNS signs. On the one hand, they stand like monuments to man’s inbecility and hubris — places where defenselessness is policy and actually celebrated.

On the other hand, it’s a useful thing when idiots advertise themselves. It makes it easy to avoid them. And what could be smarter.

About Wisconsin Gun Owners

WGO works for grassroots gun owners, not politicians. While many gun lobbies fight for “reasonable gun control,” WGO sets a higher standard: Defining the terrain of pro-gun political battle. Sure, many groups claim they’re “pro-gun” – all the while they provide cover for anti-gun deals cut by politicians – but only WGO truly informs gun owners, remaining committed to a 100% pro-gun position. We oppose all gun control – regardless of the political party – and work tirelessly to restore the Second Amendment. Visit www.wisconsingunowners.org

This article is ridiculous. You say you support gun rights but what about property rights? Do you ignore 'no trespassing' signs too? As a property owner you have rights. I am a firearms owner but an article like this makes gun owners look stupid. Thanks for bringing us down.

You know, the same thing can be said for employers and companies who don't allow weapons on their properties, i.e. railroads. I work for a railroad contractor, and we are in bad areas ALL THE TIME! I'm not allowed to carry even though I have my CCW permit, which is reciprocal everywhere I work. I'm in a potentially life threatening situation every day having to drive on and off the rails in these bad areas. I think that those of us that have proven ourselves worthy, not only to our local authorities but at a national level as well, should… Read more »
