Indianapolis, IN –-(Ammoland.com)- Margie and I just got home after being in Indy for 3 days. Monday evening I had the pleasure of being the guest speaker at a group in Greencastle, In.
I have spoken to this group last year and it was nice to visit with them again. The past two days I spent at the Statehouse working on some business.
I want to cover a couple of things quickly and I’ll speak more about this at our next Patriot meeting. First, some of you may have seen this article about some proposed legislation relating to tannerite; https://tiny.cc/swwvnw
I spoke with Senator Merritt briefly Tuesday morning about this, but we didn’t have much time. I did ask to have some time to give him a different perspective on this issue. He did call me this morning but neither of us had time to talk much. I do hope to get the chance to talk with the good senator and I’m sure I will.
For those who don’t know much about this product, it has been around for about 20 years and it is a compound that can be purchased at many gun shops and most sporting stores. Many gun ranges use this and some even use it when they have youth shooting events for excitement. My concern is that type of legislation will potentially lead to more restrictions on items such as powders and primers. I talked with Dan Tanner, the owner and founder of the Tannerite company this evening. I am hoping that we can discourage efforts to restrict this product.
The story is misleading to say the least. I don’t know of any incidents that has happened when the product is used correctly. I wonder if turkey cookers wouldn’t pose a bigger risk. According to the National Fire Protection Association U.S. fire departments responded to an estimated annual average of 154,700 home structure fires involving cooking equipment between 2004 and 2008. These fires caused an average of 460 civilian deaths, 4,850 reported civilian fire injuries, and $724 million in direct property damage. Tannerite when detonated produces only water vapor.
Lastly, I’d like to speak about an issue that comes up every 6 or 7 years. From time to time there seems to be a tendency to try and merge the 2nd Amendment Patriots with other groups that have come along since we started back in 1999.
While we always welcome individuals and groups to our meetings, I want to reiterate that will not abandon our sovereignty and will not combine the Patriots with other groups. The 2nd Amendment Patriots have spent 14 years establishing a reputation that is well known to many as a group of citizens who are respectable and a group whom others are comfortable to be with. This group has established itself as one that legislators, candidates and other individuals make a point to visit.
Finally I’d like to mention that we politely want to remind our purpose has always been to protect and defend, not just the Second Amendment, but all of our liberties and it will not be a venue to promote a personal agenda or to be utilized by anyone for self serving purposes.

I love the second amendment, love guns and the noise they make! But I have to say, when my idiot neighbor sets off tannerite in the back yard it really pisses me off! It’s idiots like him that will get tannerite banned! Nobody should set that stuff off in a neighborhood. Go out to the country. I just filed a complaint with the township and hope anyone who is bothered by this crap should do the same! This will give gun owners a bad rep!

Here's an idea parasites(politicians): Instead of passing more restrictions, get the CURRENT restrictions off the books. Yes, we can get Tannerite over the interweb no questions asked. And we can make BIG booms with it. We should be able to do the same with explosives in general.. Tell me, why should I face YEARS in prison and felony charges for manufacturing my own IEDs and detonating them on MY property when it hurts no one else?
