BATFE Taking Comments on a Pending Ban Ammo

Will consider public comments until Dec 31st…

North Carolina –-(Ammoland.com)-The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is considering further restrictions for various types of ammunition used in both rifles and handguns.

The new restrictions stem from the Federal Gun Control Act of 1968, which among other things restricted “Armor Piercing” ammunition and also set forth exceptions that were allowed.

One such restriction banned handgun ammunition which had a composition where the materials were harder than lead.

In what appears to be yet another anti-gun initiative by the Obama administration, the BATFE is now considering reversing previous policy by banning ammunition which was originally designed for rifles but can also be used in certain handguns, such as the Thompson Contender or pistol versions of semi-automatic rifles, by claiming that some such ammunition does not meet the exception standards. At issue now is what changes the BATFE would make in further determining exceptions under the “sporting purposes” exceptions.

As BATFE documents note: “…in developing a narrow sporting purposes test, ammunition in traditional hunting calibers will become regulated.” Translated, common rifle ammunition, including steel-core ammunition, would be banned simply because a handgun happens to be chambered for that caliber – as such handguns have been for many decades.

There is still time!

The BATFE has opened the issue for public comment until December 31st, 2012. That gives us less than a month to have our voices heard in this issue. Take a moment and write to the BATFE using the email address provided below and let them know your concerns as they consider future changes to the “sporting purposes” exceptions to the Gun Control Act of 1968 which very well may result in further restrictions on commonly used ammunition.

IMMEDIATE ACTION REQUIRED!

  • Email The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives before December 31st.
  • Tell the BATFE that further restrictions are not needed and would be a serious violation of our rights under the Second Amendment.
  • Support GRNC!: As we move closer to the national and local legislative sessions, GRNC needs your support to help combat the efforts against your rights as gun owners. Join or renew your membership! https://www.grnc.org/join-grnc/join-grnc-online

Suggested Subject: “To the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives:”

To Whom It May Concern,

It has come to my attention that the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is considering further restrictions for various types of ammunition used in both rifles and handguns as they pertain to the Federal Gun Control Act of 1968. I am personally concerned that further restrictions on commonly used ammunition would represent a serious breach of the intended scope of the original limitations set forth under the laws created in the Gun Control Act.

As BATFE documents note: “…in developing a narrow sporting purposes test, ammunition in traditional hunting calibers will become regulated.” Regulated? It would be effectively banned. I will not stand idly by while bureaucrats try to ban common rifle ammunition, including steel-core ammunition, simply because a handgun happens to be chambered for that caliber – as such handguns have been for many decades.

Respectfully,

I think the a.t.f. Should be disbanded as its a gross waste of money and not needed in a “FREE COUNTRY”. Also I think gun laws should BE THE SAME INALL 50 states. Also CUOMO SHOULD BE IMPEACHED AND HIS “SO CALLED SAFE ACT” that was dreamed up and passed without debate should be throw out in its entirety!!! ONE HUNDRED MILES NORTH IS A REAL FREE STATE, VERMONT…MOVE THERE

this country is on the fast track to becoming communist, just how many of our god givin rights are they after.

northern command just requested they be allowed to arm drones being utilized to protect federal property like pentagon, white house, military bases, and fusion centers.

STOCK UP AMERICA,ITS COMING FASTER, THEN YOU THINK.

The BATFE does not have the Constitutional authority to ban or otherwise restrict ammunition in common use in this nation. As with any so-called "gun control", this may only be lawfully accomplished in the United States by Constitutional Amendment. Of course that won't stop these tyrannical jack-holes any more than the 1st Amendment stopped the Congress from writing legislation abridging the freedom to peaceably assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances (the Federal Restricted Buildings and Grounds Improvement Act of 2011), or abridging or outright nullifying the 4th, 5th, 6th, 9th and 10th Amendments and Article… Read more »

This is but another stretch of this road to confiscation. It will take more time to get to that point, but in the mean-time, they'll take a little here, a little there, until we once again have only sticks and stones and pitchforks with which to defend ourselves. It's at that point the government will no longer fear it's citizens, and we'll live in tyranny, the very thing the 2nd Amendment Right was intended to protect us from! Anyone attacking our 2nd Amendment Rights, even in part, are anti-American, hate America, and want to change it into a socialism. (Can… Read more »

looks like a tripwire to me, having to send name and address. They have no authority to ban anything, it's going to prolly have to be fought in the courts. NY as always is ground zero, and the gov , Bloomey, Feinstein hate the constitution, illegal to form militias, and the governent is as corrupt as they come. Help from other states would be good as far as protest to such nonsense in NY, cause when they fall, the fire is set to move.

America. It was nice while it lasted. Say bye bye to your rights (God-given, by the way) one crisis at a time. The safety of the children is worth more than some musty old constitution, right?

I am personally concerned that further restrictions on commonly used ammunition would represent a serious breach of the intended scope of the original limitations set forth under the laws created in the Gun Control Act. I apologize for my previous post. Too early in the morning for me. I thought this link was to the BATFE, to leave my comment.

edit. comment did not display correctly. The second ammendment was written to defend against a totalitarian police state.

Big M and Buck nailed it.

The BATFE IS A USELESS ENTITY. It was written to defend against a totalitarian police state.

Big M and Buck nailed it.

The BATFE should be completely eliminated as they don't perform any reasonable function other than to harrass people. How have these Gestapo bastards done anything to stop the types of massacres that have taken place recently and in the past. I say get rid of them and save some money. Of course, you can't expect the current nor any other administration to do this without a RADICAL change for the better in Congress.

george

While their at it put a ban on cigarettes, make them illegal as well we all know what this bunch of bs is all about!!!!!!!!!!!!

Robby777

Many of you misread this. it means that all bullets no matter what they are made of can be regulated. All brass? steel core surplus ammo? The BATFE has never done anything beneficial for the people, they are just enforcers and regulators and participants in "Fasr & Furious".

No ammo means no shooting…Duh!

Anthony E. Alfano

I have read this rediculous statement about Ammunition that was made for RIFLES.I have been around rifles and hand guns for many years. Let's see now the Colt 1911 Model 70 45 caliber side arm has been using the same ammo since "1911" now it's illegal since it can be used in rifles also? What you are trying to do is to disarm AMERICA by taking away our AMMO.

John Doe

Posting comments here does nothing!!! Write to the BATFE and your state representatives. Tell them how you feel. I have and will continue to. We cannot loose this fight!!

George

Tell the BATF&E to keep there hands off our bullets they have already screwed things up enough and you can bet your sweet a** that they have more than they are saying in this new attack on our rights.

VT Patriot

What a dilemma. Places in the country that won't allow lead based ammo in order to save the environment. No lead shot, no lead rifle ammo.

Now, no harder than lead ammmo?? That leaves us with what, feathers? Rocks? Blanks? How many deer will be taken by blanks? Lets look at what is really going on.

REDD

@Ranchman–Don't let them fool you man!! The BATF&E has NEVER Done anything to Benefit the Populace!! These people are up to NO GOOD, and never doubt that for a minute!!!

Ranchman

Are you sure the intent here is to ban and not allow certain kinds of bullets? The ATF's website certainly reads as if they're moving to exempt from classification as armor piercing, certain bullets solely intended for sporting purposes. I don't know but, it certainly looks that way to me. I don't want to send the ATF an email complaining about something which would, in effect, be good for us!

Tom K

They will Not stop until we have nothing left but a 22 pistol in half loads… Of course, American gun owners will revolt before that, but when will we say, "Enough is Enough"… Obama will keep pushing until there is chaos, and he can call for Martial Law… That's his ultimate goal I fear…

“BATFE Taking Comments on a Pending Ban Ammo”

They're making their list, checking it twice….

Buck

The BATF&E is an unconstitutional and thus illegal criminal organization formed to intimidate and harrase innocent Americans using legal products . The nation cold return to a modicum of freedom and financial gain by shutting them down completely . They are , to a man , the American " GESTAPO " . They , combined with the new federal agencies under the patriot act , are much more dangerous to America than any of the worlds terrorists .

Big M

Where does the BATFE get any legal authority to do anything? They sure as hell aren't an agency of the Dept. of Treasury in DC. If you want to prove it to yourself, check Chapter 3 of Title 31 (Finance) of the U.S. Code. You'll also notice that the IRS isn't listed!

Lloyd

I doubt that the BATF gives a rats ass what I or anyone else has to say on this matter!

EthanP

Lets see: .223, 45/70. Does this include 460 and 500 S&Ws? What next?

val trevino

obama told the reds after my re-election

Chris

It reads to me they are looking to lift the ban and not broaden it.

Rod

The ban only effects green tip ammo ALL other .223 and 5.56 ammo is not on the table for being banned. Please get the story right everyone says its all AR-15 ammo and that is incorrect period.

Flank

At this time, they are “only” looking to ban Steel Core. 5.56. Just like they are *only* looking to get rid of Lead foundries that produce ammo in the USA. It is a chipping away process – little by little – they are patient, but will not stop until all “offensive” weapons in the hands of civilians are controlled.
