Bonner Springs, KS –-(Ammoland.com)- Today at a press conference in Washington D.C. the NRA announced a new program called the National School Shield Safety Program in response to the recent school violence.

The Kansas State Rifle Association stands in full supports the NRA’s position.

KSRA President, Patricia Stoneking said, “The KSRA will do everything possible to support and assist in the promotion of this program. It is the right approach to stopping violence in our schools.”

We agree with the NRA that our country has gotten far off track in the discussion regarding school violence. Additional prohibitions on firearms are not the answer to this problem. It is a multi faceted societal problem and should be addressed as such.

The new NRA National School Shield Safety Program will be headed by Former Congressman Asa Hutchinson who has also served as Administrator of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and the first-ever Under Secretary for Border & Transportation Security at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

“A well trained, qualified and armed security personnel is the right response to school security. We must also address the issue of the so called gun free zones which in reality are victim rich zones that only attract those who wish to do harm.” said President Stoneking.

This is the beginning of a serious and thoughtful dialogue to address this issue and the KSRA stands ready to do all it can to assist in this effort.

As Wayne LaPierre said, “As parents, we do everything we can to keep our children safe. It is now time for us to assume responsibility for their safety at school. The only way to stop a monster from killing our kids is to be personally involved and invested in a plan of absolute protection. The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun. Would you rather have your 911 call bring a good guy with a gun from a mile away … or a minute away?”
