Pro-Gun Bill In Anti-Gun Virginia Subcommittee Tonight! – Urgent Action Needed

Covington VA –-(Ammoland.com)- VCDL supports all of Virginia’s gun owners.

HB 1604, Delegate Farrell’s bill, blocks the Commonwealth from continuing to prohibit locksmiths and electronic security personnel from carrying a gun on the job, even if they have a concealed handgun permit! Keep in mind that both occupations require a license AND a bond!

Why does Virginia think it needs to prohibit anyone with a CHP from carrying a gun to protect themselves?

This bill has been directed to the Militia, Police and Public Safety subcommittee #3 in the House, which VCDL refers to as the “death-star subcommittee,” because good bills are sent their by Republican leadership to die. The Republicans on the full committee don’t have to vote on the dead bills and avoid taking any heat for having done so. The subcommittee has 2 pro-gun Republicans (Delegate Merricks and Morefield), and ***3*** not so gun-friendly Democrats (Hope, Tyler, and Kory).

The Republican leadership kills good bills without getting their member’s hands dirty: the TWO Republicans vote correctly and, alas, the THREE Democrats vote wrong and the bill, most unfortunately, dies. Gee, what a surprise.

ACTION ITEM #1

We need to show up in that subcommittee tonight, Monday, January 14, at 5 PM to support that bill! There is a chance that at least one of the Democrats might vote with us.

The subcommittee meets at the General Assembly Building in the 8th Floor West Conference Room. I will be there with GSL stickers for those that show up to stand with our fellow gun owners.

ACTION ITEM #2

Let’s all send an email to all the members of the Militia, Police and Public Safety Committee with the easy-to-use system that VCDL has developed:

Suggested subject: Support HB 1604!

Suggested message:

Please support HB 1604, Delegate Farrell’s bill that ends the prohibition on locksmiths and electronic security personnel from carrying a concealed handgun on the job if they have a concealed handgun permit!

On top of having a concealed handgun permit, these jobs require a license and being bonded. It should be up to the person or their employer if they can carry on the job. It is NOT the business of the Commonwealth.

All statutes that prevent a CHP holder from going anywhere (either expressly, or simply as someone "with a weapon") are nothing but booby-traps for CHP holders. If someone is entrusted to travel in public with a concealed firearm, why wouldn't you trust that person in a school, courthouse, or other public building or place? If you don't trust the person, why did you issue a CHP?
