Washington, DC –-(Ammoland.com)- According to one estimate, since last year the Department of Homeland Security has stockpiled more than 1.6 billion bullets, mainly .40 caliber and 9mm. DHS also reportedly purchased 2,700 Mine Resistant Armor Protected Vehicles (MRAPs) to go with their bullet stockpile.

ATK is one company that won a contract with the Department of Homeland Security to provide 450 million rounds of .40 caliber ammunition in 2012.

Last Friday, New Jersey Rep. Leonard Lance (R – 7th District) told constituents that Janet Napolitano must explain to Congress why DHS has purchased 1.6 billion bullets and 2700 armored vehicles for domestic use. The purchase of thousands of AR15 rifles for the DHS should also be explained.

Note that these are described as “personal defense weapons”, while the same weapons in the hands of US citizens are described as “assault rifles”. He made this statement at the Morristown Tea Party 4th anniversary gathering, Friday, March 16th 2012 at the Whippany, NJ VFW.

It seems the congressman believes it’s time for the Department of Homeland Security to explain why it recently purchased 1.6 million bullets and 2,700 armored vehicles for “domestic use.”

What are they preparing for? A global economic meltdown? A government takeover? The conspiracy theories are running rampant.

My Senator (Jim Inhoff) informs me that purchase of 2700 tanks is false.

chilidog

5 War Vet, do you understand how government IDIQ contracts work?

Chilidog

Ths DHS is not purchasing 2700 MRAPs. Anyone who makes that claim is either an idiot or deliberately lying to you.

The DHS owns 16 armored, tactical vehicles for use in serving high risk warrants.

Big deal. Most big cities have at least one as well.

This conspiracy theory has been long debunked.

hilidog

Yawn

shouldn’t you guys be out hunting mothman or something?

5 War Veteran

They need these so they can kill all military veterans then they will turn on you.
Conspiracy?
Have you seen the contracts?

Becker

If these are being bought for anything but legitimate military use, we can bet they are being bought to attack gun owners. Even for the military, I would still have to ask, why now? I never thought there would be a day when I would hate the US government.

Chilidog seems to be the angriest troll I’ve seen in a while. I usually enjoy chili dogs, though some people put mustard on them which I find wierd. You would think that being a well fed non-heterosexual male indigent that Mr Chilidog would be happy, I mean aren’t big guys supposed to be Jolly?

Chilidog

Idiots.

CHilidog

BTW, Federal Law Enforcement Officers train and qualify using the same guns and ammo they use in the field, Hollow Points.

And the DHS did NOT purchase 2700 armored vehicles. Those belong to the US Marines and are staying with the US Marines.

Get your head out of Alex Jones rear end.

Chilidog

No, Steven, the purchases were NOT made.

Alex Jones is peddling his latest conspiracy theory.

I would like to point out one thing this article leaves out. The DHS proposal for 7000 AR15 “Personal Defense Weapons” is for short barreled, select fire fully automatic rifles. These are class III firearms which are strongly regulated by the NFA of 1934. These are not semi-automatic rifles that citizens can own without serious background checks, additional fees and a $200.00 tax stamp for each firearm. Yet they call these “personal defense weapons” when they are used by government agencies. When the semi-automatic 16 inch barreled AR15 is in a citizens hands, they refer to it as an “assault… Read more »

The article should also include the 9,200 bullet proof check points that it’s in the process of purchasing.

Everyone that is a regular reader of this site needs to google, 1961 State Department Document 7277 – It explains retaining enough military to “maintain internal order”. Bush signed off on Homeland Security and Obama kept the ball rolling.

I also would like to know what they need with all that ammo and especially 2700 armored vehicles! They are not a military or National Guard unit? What about this purchase- The money involved- That ammo should go to military or/and the civilians? There is no earthly use for DHS to need that much ammo, especially hollow point ammo!

Stephen Oak Lawn ILL.

A conspiracy theory isn’t necessary. It is fact that these purchases were made! And by DHS addmission for “domestic use”. What reason might the DHS have for these purchases? Why this particular time, is there a super large cell of Al Qaeda thats going to attack? Will we be invaded by mexico or canada? It is fact, that in the course of normal day to day operation, the DHS does not even get close to using that much ammunition in four years. The large portion consists of JHP rounds (jacketed hollow point)that are designed to flatten out on impact and… Read more »

I DO NOT BELIEVE ANYTHING THE CROOKS TELL ME.

This stupid conspiracy theory has already jumped the shark.
