FAIRFAX, Va. –-(Ammoland.com)- An article ( https://tiny.cc/0zuvtw ) appearing today on NBCNews.com is falsely reporting that NRA will not oppose legislation being negotiated in the U.S. Senate that would mandate background checks for all gun purchasers.

The story ( https://tiny.cc/0zuvtw ) posted on NBCNews.com alleges that NRA will not oppose expanding the background check system to include all private firearm sales, “provided the legislation does not require private gun sellers to maintain records of the checks”.

This statement is completely untrue.

The NRA opposes criminalizing private firearms transfers between law-abiding individuals, and therefore opposes an expansion of the background check system.

The NRA supports meaningful efforts to address the problems of violent crime and mass violence in America, through swift and certain prosecution of violent criminals; securing our schools; and fixing our broken mental health system.

About:
Established in 1871, the National Rifle Association is America’s oldest civil rights and sportsmen’s group. Four million members strong, NRA continues its mission to uphold Second Amendment rights and to advocate enforcement of existing laws against violent offenders to reduce crime. The Association remains the nation’s leader in firearm education and training for law-abiding gun owners, law enforcement and the military. Visit: www.nra.org

I have heard these false accusations about the NRA, even from another pro-gun group. That is what the gun grabbers are trying to do with these false stories, divide and conquer. They love to see infighting between gun groups and placing doubt in the minds of people who should know better. The NRA is never or has ever sold us down the creek. Much easier to pick up the phone and ask them what you are hearing than just believe it. That is what the gun grabbers are betting on, you believing it and spreading it without checking it out.… Read more »

Thanx Paul, most comprehensive explanation I’ve seen yet.

“Universal background checks” are gun ban code words for “universal gun registration.” Bear in mind that using NICS for gun registration has already been tried — in the 1990s, when the Clinton administration violated the law by refusing to expunge transaction records despite Congressional hearings on the matter. It was reversed only under the Bush administration. Moreover, the devil is in the details. Look at what the Senate Judiciary Committee just passed, S. 374, and below is what you will find. It is a truly draconian bill couched in nice, easy-to-digest platitudes. Here are a few items. You will find… Read more »
