Manasquan, NJ –-(Ammoland.com)- The main stream news media, are jumping all over a story about Adam Lanza’s mother planning to purchase her son a “C183” hand gun.

The problem is there is no such gun as a C183 handgun. As more and more of these genius news reporters keep piling on to this reporting mistake regarding the contents of Adma Lanza’s home, they expertly demonstrate that they know nothing about firearms and don’t even bother to investigate the facts.

“Investigators found more than 1,600 rounds of ammunition in the house, and a holiday card with a check “made out to Adam Lanza for the purchase of a C183 (firearm), authored by Nancy Lanza,” according to a search warrant.”

What is a C183? I have never heard of a firearm by this model. It is a 14 megapixel camera. Did some uninformed journalist see C183 and just assume it was a gun? I have seen multiple cable news reporters repeating this same mistake and I’ve never heard of any gun by this model name

Most likely it is a reference to a CZ-USA Cz83 Pistol.

Product Description
The micro-sized .380s that have arrived on the scene in recent years have reduced dimensions to the point that they are difficult to control even for the most accomplished shooters. The CZ 83’s combination of small size and moderate weight easily handles the new generation of high-performance defensive ammo that has become available for ‘pocket’ pistol calibers from leading ammo manufacturers. The DA/SA trigger mechanism operates in the same manner as the CZ 75. The 83 can be carried ‘cocked and locked’ with the hammer back and the safety on for single action operation, or it may be manually decocked for hammer-down carry. When carried in the decocked position, the safety lever does not need to be de-activated, but instead the first shot is double action and subsequent shots are single action. The CZ 83 features an ambidextrous manual safety and magazine catch.

I see, just because there were 1600 rounds of ammunition, the reporters automatically assume the C183 is a gun and couldn’t possibly be that Adam’s mother wanted him to buy a camera. They didn’t mention the caliber of all that ammo did they?

Brendan O'Brien

You forgot one detail. Adam was 20 when he died, and would not have turned 21 until April of 2013.
He would not have been able to purchase a handgun. So a predated check for a CZ 83 makes no sense when he would not have been able to buy for another 5 months..

An error in the second paragraph refers to C138 instead of C183 as the rest of the story refers.

James

There’s a C138 license, unfortunately for the media it pertains to the sale of alcohol on a premise….
