All anti-gun amendments to S. 649 shot down in flames…

North Carolina –-(Ammoland.com)-In Washington yesterday, several anti-gun amendments to Senator Harry Reid’s (D-NV, GRNC-0) S. 649 were voted down, sending an important message to America: Politicians are over-reaching with their proposals.

Despite claims from President Obama that “lies” were used in the process, it was clear that proposed amendments to the bill that were designed to limit magazine capacity, create a database for gun owners which would pave the way for national gun registration, and an all out assault on so-called “Assault Weapons” were simply not what the American people were talking about when discussing “common sense” gun legislation.

With most of the amendments already defeated yesterday on the Senate floor, the final up or down vote for S. 649 will likely come today. We cannot stress enough that S. 649 must be stopped once and for all. Yesterday, we saw amendments from Sens Dianne Fienstein (D-CA, GRNC-0), Patrick Leahy D-VT, GRNC-0), and Frank Lautenburg (D-NJ, GRNC-0) all voted down, some with embarrassing accounts. Today, we must follow through and insure that this far-reaching bill comes to a swift end.

Senator Burr votes as promised
Despite voting to bring Harry Reid’s anti-gun bill to the Senate floor last week, Senator Burr did as he promised following a demonstration led by GRNC, and voted “No” to the amendments on Wednesday. Senator Burr heard your voices, without a doubt. Through your efforts, GRNC was successful in keeping North Carolina’s focus in Washington on the right track. All indications are that Sen Burr will vote “No” today on the final vote for the bill, which leaves us with only one real question: Where does Senator Kay Hagan stand on today’s expected vote?

Senator Hagan still has a chance
As a result of yesterday’s actions on the Senate floor, Sen Hagan now has a chance to either vote “No” to cloture today when the final up or down vote for S. 649 comes, or start packing her bags and begin a new search for employment. North Carolina deserves representation in Washington that reflects our values, not those of anti-gun states such as NY and CA. Sen Hagan has proven time after time that she will vote against the wishes of her constituency, but now has a chance to finally vote on the right side of history. We need to be united today and let her know that we expect nothing less than her to vote for our values.

IMMEDIATE ACTION REQUIRED!

  • CALL AND EMAIL Sen Kay Hagan now and let her know you expect her to vote “No” for S. 649
  • CALL AND EMAIL Sen. Richard Burr and thank him for standing up for our values

Suggested Subject: “Vote ‘No’ to S. 649!”

Dear Senator Hagan:

Your votes for the adoption of various anti-gun amendments to S. 649 yesterday were a great disappointment, to say the least. As a resident of North Carolina, I fully expect those who represent my values in Washington to vote accordingly. Yesterday, you failed in that regard. Most of those amendments that you voted “Yes” to would have severely impacted my ability to defend myself if ever the occasion arose.

If passed with these amendments, Senate Bill 649 would not only make me a felon if I was to leave my legally-owned gun with my family if I am out of town for an extended period, but it also would have laid the foundation to create a national registry of gun owners, leading us down the road to eventual gun confiscation as is already the case in the State of New York.

In fact, if you continue to vote against gun rights, I encourage you to look for another job; in your next election, gun owners will work to remove you. I will continue to monitor your performance via Grass Roots North Carolina legislative alerts.

Respectfully,
