Charlotte, NC –-(Ammoland.com)- One important provision of Senate Bill 1160, passed in the Connecticut General Assembly and signed into law by Governor Dan Malloy (D), takes effect on Tuesday, October 1.
This new misguided law requires individuals over the age of 18 to obtain an “ammunition certificate” to purchase ammunition and magazines. The fee (tax) for this certificate is $35. Each applicant will undergo a criminal background investigation in order to be issued this certificate. Your “ammunition certificate” must be renewed every five years.
However, if you already hold a valid state Permit to Carry Pistols and Revolvers or a newly created “long gun eligibility certificate,” you are exempt from this additional requirement to obtain a separate “ammunition and magazine certificate.”

This requirement is one of many onerous provisions of this law that penalizes responsible gun owners and sportsmen in Connecticut. Your NRA is doing everything in its power to reverse this dangerous law which has no effect on criminals and only impacts law-abiding citizens.

Oppression of gun owners because an unarmed man is a sheep.
NJ , CT , NY , CA ,MA , Leading the country in gun control and the highest taxes in the country , Our forefathers would have tried them all for treason , and hung them.
Cut these states from federal funding and boycott their businesses until they collapse. Stop being nice is stupid states.
Election time is here. Lets vote the loser governor out and vote in someone who takes a common sense approach to gun laws. I find it disgusting that I have to go through a bunch of red tape to buy ammo for my grandfather’s old 22. The Ammo law is a clear infringement on my constitutional rights!!
Those of us who have been shooting and hunting for 50 or 60 years, find it disconcerting that our government has put regulation and control on what we need to hunt or shoot, thereby taking away the sport we enjoy. I guess it’s just too hard to tackle the real problem. Time will tell that this sneaky move does more to alienate many folks and hurt the local economy than it does to stop the mentally disturbed from becoming violent.
Just sent half a case of .45ACP to a friend in CT. He had to scan and email his carry permit and DL to the shipper. He received it this morning — so far no SWAT Teams menacing…still, a PITA and another law-abiding citizen ‘hoop’ to jump through. Sigh.
We can be sure the criminals will follow this law.
Heard that pistol-grip shotguns are illegal as well——what can one expect from a democrat-controlled legislature. Thank GOD I moved to Arizona—land of the free and home of the brave.
Another state, Perverted by the liberal INFECTION.
The certificate will not stop anyone from using ammo to hurt other citizens.
The recent mass shooting are proof of that.
CONSTITUION ANYONE?
** THIS IS CLEARLY A ‘TAX’ TO REGULATE & CONTROL.
PLZ PILE THE SUITS ON – and ‘KEEP’ ‘EM COMING!
I agree with TSgt B on this one. It’s peak season now, and we’re enjoying our freedoms. I’m off to the range this weekend to sight-in in anticipation of hunting season. I’ll stop by the LGS to pick up some ammmo.
Citizens of Connecticut,
Fortunately, you don’t live all that far from a few FREE states. I would suggest you take a day trip to Vermont, New Hampshire, or Maine to make your purchases. After all fall is a beautiful time for a nice drive in the Northeast.
