Florida – -(Ammoland.com)- A Florida Carry supported, bipartisan bill to stop unjust prosecutions of gun owners who are forced to defensively display a firearm to repel a criminal attacker under the state’s 10-20-life law passed its first committee stop Thursday.

House Bill 89, sponsored by Neil Combee, R-Polk City, and Katie Edwards, D-Plantation, will insure that self-defense immunity applies to people who use the threat of a gun to halt an attack on themselves or their families.

HB-89 passed the House Criminal Justice Subcommittee ba a 12-1 vote, with Rep. Kionne McGhee, D-Miami, casting the only vote against it.

The bill was supported by speakers from the National Rifle Association, Florida Carry, Families Against Minimum Sentences, and the Florida Public Defenders Association.

Anti-Gun State Prosecutor Angela Cory quickly denounced the bill in the press. Essentially saying that a person should never display a firearm unless the situation they are faced with has already spiraled so out of control that the gun owner is already justified in using Lethal Force.

HB-89 Corrects Florida’s Real “Shoot First” Law!

About:
Florida Carry is a non-profit, non-partisan, grassroots organization dedicated to advancing the fundamental civil right of all Floridians to keep and bear arms for self defense as guaranteed by the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution and Article I Section 8 of the Florida Constitution. Florida Carry, Inc. was organized by a group of Florida gun rights activists in order to better coordinate activities, effectively lobby the state legislature, and to provide a legal entity capable of filing suit to demand compliance with state and federal law. Florida Carry stands only to represent our members and the over 6 million gun owners of Florida. We are not beholden to any national organization’s agenda that may compromise that mission.
Florida Carry works tirelessly toward repealing and striking down ill-conceived gun control laws that have been proven to provide safe havens to criminals and be deadly to law abiding citizens.

Communists in the legal system cause us to pass new laws because they refuse to allow COMMON SENSE .

Florida’s 10-20-life law needs to be repealed entirely; I don’t know if it’s even constitutional under the 8th amendment.

D. Murphy

Some more common sense coming to the legislature finally.

Dr. Strangelove

No warning shots. If you have to shoot to protect yourself, negate the threat.
