Safariland Group to Honor Two ‘Saved Officers’ at SHOT Show 2014

ONTARIO, California –-(Ammoland.com)- The Safariland Group SAVES CLUB will recognize two law enforcement officers saved in the line of fire by armor or duty gear manufactured by The Safariland Group.

Media is invited to booth #12762 at the 2014 SHOT Show and witness SAVES CLUB representatives salute these respected law enforcement officers for their valor and their devotion to duty and listen to the officers’ courageous stories.

These officers are amongst more than 1,875 respected Safariland Group SAVES Club members. The SAVES Club is a group of individuals who, during the line of duty, experienced a life-threatening critical incident where their Safariland Group armor or duty gear contributed to saving their life.

Each of our SAVES members become advocates for the law enforcement community, expressing the importance of wearing body armor, and providing other safety tips. From the manufacturing floor to the company’s president, The Safariland Group embraces these SAVES and honor the dedication and commitment they exhibit every day.

Armor SAVE Honoree: SAVE #1876 Parole Agent Nate Castro of The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation

Parole Agent Nate Castro from the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation was part of a nine member task force that received a tip about the whereabouts of a felon wanted for false imprisonment, kidnapping, sexual assault and torture.  As the agents set up a perimeter and began the search, the felon opened fire on the team and Agent Castro was hit two times in the chest.  His Second Chance® level IIIA armor stopped both rounds.  The task force returned fire and the assailant was killed in the gunfight.

Duty Gear SAVE Honoree: Deputy David Morton

During a residential robbery, Deputy David Morton chased one of the suspects who made their way through an apartment complex. The assailant, who was more than 6 feet 5 inches and weighed more than 400 lbs, attempted but failed to get the deputy’s pistol from his Safariland Model 6360 ALS Level III Retention™ duty holster.

Despite a dislocated shoulder, Deputy Morton survived the incident and was able to restrain the suspect.
