NEWTOWN, Conn –-(Ammoland.com)- On Wednesday, the U.S. Supreme Court heard arguments in Abramski v. United States.

At the heart of the issue is not whether Congress intended to have the Gun Control Act of 1968 keep firearms out of the hands of criminals through background checks, but whether the law should allow law-abiding individuals to purchase guns for someone else.

The “straw man” doctrine was codified into law in 1995, when the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATF) modified Form 4473 to say such purchases were illegal on their face and wouldn’t be permitted.

This is an important case. As the NSSF’s Larry Keane told Guns.com, “We look forward to the Supreme Court clarifying the law so that federally licensed firearms retailers across America will know whether they can lawfully sell a firearm to a law-abiding citizen who is acting on behalf of another law-abiding citizen.”

I heard they passed the law that you cant buy a gun for someone else. Just buy it and give it to them. Don’t ask questions because our federal government straw purchased thousands of guns that went to mexico and nothing happened to that pos holder or obummer so I guess it’s ok to do right.

BULL! Anything I buy, including a gun, becomes my private property. I am free to retain of dispose of it as I see fit. Any cases brought to court regarding this issue deserve the benefit of jury nullification. If a lawful gun owner transfers a gun to another who qualifies to own a gun, there is no victim, therefor no crime, per Common Law. “Laws” against this are contrary to our Constitution with respect to private property, and also with respect to infringement per the 2nd Amendment. Phuggem!!!

Heck…In Colorado under Gov. Hickenloopers extended universal criminal back ground check system…I can’t even give my wife my pistol to use in case of self defense…She’s not even allowed to touch my pistol let alone use it!…If I want to give her or any of my children my gun I have to take them and the gun to an FFL dealer and they would have to do the 4473 paper work and then have their name run through Hickenlooper’s universal criminal back ground check system…Which HIckenlooper charges a sur-tax of $10. on each and every firearm purchased in this state…There’s… Read more »

Straw purchases are the problem in the big cities. Just look at Chicago….
Why would i want to purchase for someone else ? If you want to give a “gift” just give them the cash and let them go through the appropriate background check.
