NEWTOWN, Conn –-(Ammoland.com)- YOUTH AND GUNS . . . Manipulating statistics and scenarios with children and guns, ABC’s 20/20 tried to convince viewers last Friday there is an epidemic of firearms accidents in the country, but reaction to the many inaccuracies in the report was swift.

Radio host Dana Loesch produced this blistering video response, Cortney O’Brien fired back in this Townhall.com column and this piece by The Blaze focuses on the misleading statistics.

“So many children dying in accidental shootings,” proclaims ABC News’ Diane Sawyer even though accidents involving children 14 and under have declined by 28 percent in the last decade, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

On the NSSF Blog, NSSF President Steve Sanetti noted how industry’s Project ChildSafe program has been working to help prevent access to loaded firearms by children and how just last week the Orange County Sheriff’s Department used the program to promote firearm safety education to youth and adults in the communities it serves.

Not surprisingly, the ABC 20/20 segment never mentioned Project ChildSafe and the 36 million gun locks it has provided free of charge to gun owners or the more than 60 million gun locks manufacturers have provided with new guns sold.

About NSSFThe National Shooting Sports Foundation is the trade association for the firearms industry. Its mission is to promote, protect and preserve hunting and the shooting sports. Formed in 1961, NSSF has a membership of more than 6,000 manufacturers, distributors, firearms retailers, shooting ranges, sportsmen’s organizations and publishers. @oldgringo. You can go to the NRA’s or NSSF’s web sites, watch or listen to Cam and company on the net, Sirius satellite radio or The Sportsman’s Channel, and get your facts and figures for your debates. Also American Handgunner, Guns magazine, and even Shotgun News have columns about the Second Amendment and sometimes figures. Sadly the magazine who’s site we are on doesn’t have as much about the 2nd amendment as I think they need too. Maybe if your friends don’t want to acknowledge the “facts” you present to them then maybe you need some new friends that are… Read more »

Please hire an editor.

“safety” is the correct spelling.

“Jeopardy” is the correct spelling.

Good articles with gross spelling errors lose their impact.

Diane piece of garbage Sawyer and her worthless producers, along with the staff of that so called school should be in jail for bringing guns into a school where children could have access to them. These so called people are worthless trash!!

LHTwist

Diane Sawyer is such a twit, always trying to play upon the emotional aspects of any story. She simply doesn’t have the talent it takes to stick to just the facts.

I taught my children early to respect guns. My oldest son went shooting with me at the age of 6. I always kept them out of their reach at least until the age of 13, At the age of six he learned what they can do. And what to do if he found one. I put one in his bed and he came to me and said, daddy there is a gun in my bed. All four of my sons were taught that if they ever wanted to look at one or handle one all they needed to do was… Read more »

I agree…The political emails I forward which I have received from my like minded friends and individuals only go out to other like minded friends and individuals…If they forward my emails to their friends I do not know…Those few friends I have on the left have told me not to send then any anti-Obama crap or basically our friendship is over…So you see it’s not all that easy to do as you suggested…One thing I find discouraging is that when articles of half truths like this surface advocating more gun control…The NRA needs writers that will pick their stories apart… Read more »

The issue with the response is we keep talking about an inanimate object as the issue,
It’ s a car accident, a pool accident, a household chemical, so on and so forth.

If we continue to place blame the blame on the objects, rather than the people responsible, we are playing into the hands of those that want to take inanimate objects away from us.

Let’s be smarter in our responses.

Dave

Here’s the problem: all the responses (wonderful though they are) were addressed to those who already agree with us. We need to speak to those who are watching and believing ABC/NBC/CBS/CNN. They never hear Dana and never read the Blaze. We’ve got to stop talking to ourselves if we want to win over voters.
