In the aftermath of the shooting incident at Los Angeles International Airport, the American Federation of Government Employees, the labor union that represents 45,000 federal transportation security officers, on Monday urged the Department of Homeland Security’s new secretary and President Barack Obama to create special units of armed TSA security officers with police training and arrest authority while on duty at the nation’s airports.

“The sad truth is that our TSA officers are subject to daily verbal assaults and far too frequent physical attacks,” said Jeffrey David Cox Sr., president of the American Federation of Government Employees. “We feel a larger and more consistent armed presence in screening areas would be a positive step.”

The Uninvited Ombudsman notes however that:

Guns save lives. Even government agents know it. I have nothing to add…

@Bayou Rat: Neither my JHP nor my Custom II have ever been a problem. Hi-Point and Kimber both make fine firearms.

Bayou Rat

I own a High Point .45. The gun has never jammed. I have put 1,000’s of rounds through it. All sorts of crap ammo. Reloads. +P’s everything. The gun has never jammed. I have a Kimber 1911 .45. It has been nothing but a problem jams all the time. Don’t know why anyone would hate on High Point. There fine weapons and they stand behind there product.

I have to agree 100% with Gunslinger. He nailed it!

David

Was a firearms instructor for years & had the unfortunate expierence of students who want the right to defend themselves & they buy a HighPoint. That’s all their life’s worth, a couple of bucks. It’s not of matter of if but when is that gun going to jam. On the first mag or second. After about five rounds have been shot it jams & jams & jams. I don’t have the time to waste so buy a decent gun. TSA agents have the same constitutional rights as me. The argument that they aren’t intelligent enough to carry is the same… Read more »

Tell me exactly what the problem with the Amerikan made Hi-Point gun? DO you have one? Have to fired one? I guess you probably enjoy the chinese communist rifle of choice then, huh?
Don’t knock something you know nothing about.

Whatever happened to that idea of “equal rights” for everyone?

Spatcher

Hey didn’t Obama take that same oath? Never mind!

Chris Rakes

it has always been my opinion that the founders of this Nation that the biggest thing we have to fear is an armed Government
therefore it has always been my belief that NO government agent should be armed.
If you are afraid to do your job then you need to find something else to do

First of all, it is complete hogwash to call TSA staff by the term, “officer.” They take no oath to defend the US Constitution from all enemies, foreign and domestic. Hence, they miss the primary way that a person becomes an officer of the court and of the law. Technically, they are not officers. Now, would you ever trust someone who was not a swore officer, to uphold your rights? Hell .. this is even too much for regular cops to do these days. This bevy of life’s losers who seek a job at TSA could care less about your… Read more »

I guess they are desperate enough to use a pic with a high point gun. Now that’s definitely dire straights

TSA agent, in my opinion, are some of the dumbest, creapiest people in society. Now they think they need to carry. Allot of these people are felons and shouldn’t be around guns anyway.

WHO COMES UP WITH THIS SH*T?
