Manasquan, NJ –-(Ammoland.com)- The question over more restrictive gun control laws such as a the renewal or expansion of the ineffective “Assault Weapons Ban”, Magazine Capacity Restrictions and Concealed Carry for Self Defense is the massive Elephant in the room for New Jersey Governor Chris Christie and his pursuit of the Republican Nomination for the 2016 Presidential Election.

Both Christie and the National GOP ignore supporting gun owner rights at their tremendous peril.

While “Bridgegate” and questions over the dispersal of Super Storm Sandy Relief Funds have fueled the intense spotlight cast on Christie as of late, absent some sort of “bombshell” revelation pertaining to either it is highly probable that he will weather the storm from those two issues relatively intact.

When it comes to the question of Gun Control however, its an issue that is simply not going to go away as easily.

Bridgegate” and the Sandy Relief Funds questions are by and large creations of the Mainstream Media eager to knock Christie down a few pegs, as he has widely been considered, based on conventional wisdom, to be the only “truly viable” candidate capable of taking on and beating Hillary Clinton in 2016. That is not to say that there aren’t legitimate questions about both Sandy Funds and the Ft Lee Bridge Lane Closure, just that those questions have been overly hyped and blown completely out of proportion by the Media. By and large they are “NJ Centric” issues. Something people in New Hampshire or Iowa ( Two Early Primary States) wouldn’t even be aware of, let alone consider as issues that could potential effect them were it not for the efforts of the likes of MSNBC, The New York Times and other reliably hard left propaganda organizations.

But, by focusing so intently on “Bridgegate” and “Sandy Funds” in their zealous efforts to destroy Christie, the Left Wing Fourth Estate, Columnists have managed to wake up the rest of the Country up to Christie. Voters are scrutinizing him with great attention on a whole host of issues, and they aren’t liking what they’re finding when it comes to his position on the Second Amendment.

During his campaign for Governor and his subsequent election and recent re-election, Christie has managed to walk the “no commitment” tightrope of appeasement to both sides of the gun debate. And for the most part that strategy has worked even if it drew the ire of voters on either side. He famously commuted the draconian sentence of NJ resident Brian Aitken who was sent to State Prison for seven years for a technical violation of NJ’s horrifically strict and punitive gun laws. But he drew fire from Anti Gun Groups and Legislators for vetoing several Gun Control Bills last Summer. He drew intense criticism from Second Amendment Advocates for his ridiculous assertion that because “NJ is unique”, it is perfectly acceptable to him to arbitrarily deny its Citizens the right to defend themselves in public. But he was praised by gun advocates for not bowing to the pressure of leading Anti Gun Legislators like Loretta “Confiscate x3” Weinberg and her efforts to ban the .50 caliber rifle, after she admitted that “we pass laws all the time we know nothing about” during a Committee Hearing on the proposed ban.

The rest of the Country is now not only intensely following Christie, but the issue of guns as well. They will learn, if they haven’t already, that during his Campaign for County Freeholder (aka Commissioner in other States), Christie was an enthusiastic supporter of Gov Jim Florio’s myopic State level “Assault Weapons Ban”,  a law that overnight turned owners of even .22 caliber plinking rifles with tubular fixed magazines into felons. A law that was passed despite the public testimony of Deputy Chief of Police Joseph Constance of Trenton NJ, who in a testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee in August, 1993 asserted “Assault rifles have never been an issue in law enforcement. I have been on this job for 25 years and I haven’t seen a drug dealer carry one. They are not used in crimes; they are not used against police officers.”

Deputy Chief Constance continued, “Since police started keeping statistics, we now know that assault weapons are/were used in an underwhelming 0.026 of 1% of crimes in New Jersey. This means that my officers are more likely to confront an escaped tiger from the local zoo than to confront an assault rifle in the hands of a drug-crazed killer on the streets.”

The rest of the Country will learn that because of Christie’s opinion that NJ is “unique” , its Citizens are forced to be completely defenseless in the face of attacks by violent criminals, served up as sacrificial lambs on the altar of Anti Gun Ideology, as Dustin Friedland and his wife tragically discovered just before Christmas. .

In the late 80’s and early 90’s the official slogan of NJ’s Tourism Bureau was “NJ and You, Perfect Together”. Now its “StateMandated Victimhood and You, Perfect Together”.

As I write this, the current NJ Attorney General is writing an opinion requesting the Supreme Court not here the pending Drake Case concerning NJ’s impossible to obtain Concealed Carry Permit and the arbitrary and capricious “justifiable need” clause that governs the same that is a carbon copy of the California Statute that was struck down as UnConstitutional by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals last week.

While news broke late last week that the NJ Legislature has apparently decided to follow the lead of NY State and draft a new magazine capacity bill restricting magazines to a maximum of ten rounds.

If Christie truly hopes to halt and reverse his current dip in the poles, as well as keep alive his hopes for the 2016 Presidential Nomination; his best, rather his only sensible course of action is to veto the ten round capacity limit proposal, if or when it makes it to his desk, as well as any other new gun control laws during whats left of his term as Governor. Additionally he should advise his Attorney General to not go to great lengths in opposing certiorari of Drake v. Jerejian. He really has nothing to lose by doing so, since he is not running for another term as Governor. But he has everything to lose, including his Party’s Nomination for President if he doesn’t.

The vast majority of the rest of the Country does not particularly like being told by government how many rounds of ammunition is “acceptable” , or that their rights cease to exists at their front door because of some imagined and nebulous “uniqueness” about where they live, or that their “scary looking” semi automatic rifles must be banned because, well, because they scare people that hate guns.

Reince Priebus, National GOP Chairman and the rest of the GOP National Leadership should heed this warning also and counsel Christie accordingly.

In their near orgasmic frenzy to try to destroy Christie, the Mainstream Media has inadvertently, and quite unintentionally helped reveal just how much an enemy of the Second Amendment a President Christie has the potential to be. And for that, they should be thanked. Useful idiots indeed.

R.I.N.O. This is one candidate that will never get my vote. I will use every avenue to spread the word to chip away at his chance of winning the white house. If this guy is the best the GOP has to offer, this country will never be free again.

Chris Christie (AKA Bubba the Slut)is only for one thing: Himself.
He’d sell his soul to become POTUS & throw gun owners to the dogs on the way.
He is no conservative no matter how he pontificates.

Crispy Cream can neither control what goes in or out of his mouth. A person of little control has no business in the WH. WE already have a complusive destructive liar there.

DrSique

Gun rights, immigration enforcement, catering to the gay marriage crowd. I’m not sure about the “elephant in the room” but Christie is, without question, a progressive in an elephants suit. I was on to this guy even when Ann Coulter had her nose clean up his ample bottom.

What I find puzzling even though there are no statistics to back up my claim and that is Democrats and Independents own more guns than do Republicans…Gun rights issues affecting responsible gun owner concerns all of us…Knowing this…Why do gun owning Democrats put up with all the radical bs the anti-gunners sprew out to the public via the news media and why do Democrats support those law-makers who don’t know diddley squat about guns, or our Constitution and it’s second amendment…Those of us who are Democrats need wake up and say to our elected leaders…’Enough is enough of this anti-gun… Read more »

I agree with Mr. Orfield. There is no such thing as a Republican in New England. There are only one or two in the US Senate and maybe 5 in the House. I’m convinced the commie goal is to put democrats in every office and every department and every agency in DC. And they are very close!
Do you think McCain was a Republican? Romney from Mass? Now Christie from NJ? Gimme a break!
Don’t even bother to vote, just turn in your guns.

Leo Smith

We will vote the Gun Grabbing politicians out of existence. One at a time if necessary.

Chris Christy is nothing more than a Liberal Fascist no matter what party he is in! The only reason he isn’t an outright Liberal Democrat is he wouldn’t have been elected governor. That is the way Fascist operate party, law, rights, loyalty, morals nothing matters to a Fascist!
