BELLEVUE, WA –-(Ammoland.com)- New Jersey foolishly passed a law in 2002 stating once “smart guns” are available for purchase in the United States that it will trigger a ban on the sale of traditional types of firearms and force all guns sold/transferred to be smart guns.

Since there is now an available $1,800 .22 ‘smart gun‘ a lawsuit was filed by the Brady Campaign to force the New Jersey Attorney General to “formally report” the availability of so-called “smart guns” smacks of a back-door gun ban.

The Brady Campaign is joined by the Mercer County, NJ chapter of the Million Mom March. If successful, the lawsuit would force the state attorney general to take the first step in the implementation of the Garden State’s 2002 “smart gun” law.

Gun prohibition fanaticism has hit a new low mark with this lawsuit. What the Brady Campaign wants is to force consumers to purchase a product that is, at best, unreliable, placing them at serious risk if they want a gun for personal protection. In the process, the gun control lobby is trying to strip away the right of personal choice, and ban the sale and transfer of current handguns.

Scott Bach, executive director of the Association of New Jersey Rifle and Pistol Clubs has also blasted the lawsuit. In a statement, Bach called New Jersey’s smart-gun law “as dumb as it gets.”

“It forces you to use an unproven technology to defend your life,” Bach stated, “and then exempts the state from liability when the gun goes ‘click’ instead of ‘bang.’ If it’s such a great idea, then law enforcement shouldn’t be exempt, and the free market should be able to determine its viability.”

For years, the Brady Campaign and other gun prohibition lobbying groups have been trying to disarm law-abiding Americans. Now they want to force New Jersey gun owners to provide a national experiment that could have disastrous results. If police don’t trust these firearms, why should American consumers?

The firearms community has many concerns about introducing expensive technology that would allow a gun to fire. Firearms already have mechanics that can go wrong at any time on the simplest firearm. Introducing advanced electronic technology that would control whether or not the gun will fire when you pull the trigger is a very unsettling idea. This would add many variables just for your gun to fire one bullet.

Could criminals find a way to disarm the “smart gun“? Any type of technology, software, even a garage door opener; criminals find ways to hack in, or disable, any type of new technology. It seems like it would be pretty simple for criminals to find a way to interfere with the communication between your smart gun and the bracelet/watch that transmits when to fire.

The undeniable factor that would occur if normal firearms became “smart guns” is the substantial rise in price. It could make the majority of firearms unaffordable to the many Americans. Even basic firearms cost several hundred dollars without any ammunition. Firearms with fingerprint identifying technology or microchips able to identify who can fire the weapon would cost outrageous amounts of money.

Would the Obama Administration allow all other firearms to be grandfathered in or would they request for confiscation and destruction of your now “dumb guns“? Anti-gun laws passed such as the latest passed in Connecticut are asking gun owners to register their now illegal, previously legal, firearms or destroy them. The federal government could demand something similar if smart guns are introduced.

We currently have over twenty open court cases throughout the United States defending our Second Amendment.

We earned multiple victories in the court systems throughout 2013. These victories ranged from challenges to a public housing gun ban along with multiple victories to protect conceal carry laws in separate states. We hope to close many more of these cases in 2014.

The Second Amendment Foundation is a grassroots organization which means we are funded by the people whose rights we are trying to protect. It is not popular to contribute or stand united with pro-gun organizations.

We do not have big shot donors like the big anti-gun groups. You hard working, Second Amendment loving patriots keep our doors open and we appreciate everything you do for us.

Together, we can preserve the Constitutional rights our Founding Fathers intended our people to have forever.

Thank you. I know I can count on you.

Sincerely yours,

NOT saying we will join.

In the guns defense, you’ve got it wrong. If it doesn’t fire it won’t go ‘Click instead of bang’. Odds are it won’t make any noise at all…
