Wisconsin –-(Ammoland.com)- A Milwaukee television station has a “you ask, we investigate” segment on their evening news.

On Monday nights “investigative” report, Steve Chamraz, WTMJ 4 reporter discusses an Oconomowoc mothers concern after capturing a picture of a man who happened to be OC’ing playing with his kids in a popular local park.

You can view this report here:  https://tiny.cc/vflgfx

This may well have been the end of the story if not for the fact the reporter misrepresents Wisconsinites right to carry when he declares that Oconomowoc bans guns from public places such as parks.

He suggests it is ILLEGAL for Oconomowoc residents to carry (openly or concealed) in public in Oconomowoc.

Wisconsin Carry, concerned that thousands of viewers have been misled, reached out to the reporter via Twitter to let him know the “investigative” reporting was inaccurate.  We shared Wisconsin Statute 66.0409 that declares local municipalities may not have gun laws stricter than state law.

Unfortunately, rather than seize the opportunity to get accurate information out to viewers or at least “investigate“, the local reporter demonstrates the difference between “reporting” and “journalism” with the following series of tweets. (above)

Here at Wisconsin Carry, we recognize that guns rarely get a fair shake in the media, but we also believe that reporters have a professional obligation to get accurate information to viewers and not just wash their hands of a story when facts are misrepresented (or disputed).

If you use Twitter, contact Steve Chamraz @tmj4steve and ask him to give the truth a fair shake on local news OR re-tweet Wisconsin Carry’s most recent tweet. www.twitter.com/wisconsincarry

If you do not use twitter, please send Channel 4 vice-president and General Manager “Joe Poss” an email: [email protected]

Ask him to hold his reporters accountable for the accuracy of information they present to the viewers.

We recognize that everyone can make mistakes and get a story wrong, but true journalists have a professional obligation to dispel misinformation, not wash their hands of it.

Lastly, topics like this and many other notable Wisconsin right-to-carry related issues are discussed weekly on “Well Armed Radio” which runs live (with listener call-in) every Sunday night (7pm central time).  Tune in via the following web-link. www.blogtalkradio.com/wellarmedradio

About:
Wisconsin Carry, Inc. is a non-profit corporation dedicated to the preservation and reclamation of the rights of law-abiding Wisconsin residents to carry in the manner of their choosing. We believe that “open carry” and “concealed carry” are choices to be made by law-abiding citizens based on their situation and preference. Wisconsin Carry, like many gun-rights organizations in Wisconsin, is investing a great deal of resources to get Wisconsin law changed to allow concealed carry this next legislative session by proposing Constitutional Carry. Wisconsin Carry, Inc. will continue to use legal recourse to deter unlawful treatment of law-abiding Wisconsin residents who currently exercise their right to open carry, and soon will exercise their right to concealed carry in Wisconsin. If there had been a sign banning black people from using the park, do you think he would have stopped with a ridiculous statement like “looks like you and the city attorney have something to discuss,” or would he have pursued the issue further and pointed out the illegality (or at least controversy) involved in such signs/regulations?

As a concerned citizen of Oconomowoc, I would feel more safe and confident for my children to see a man with an open carry on his hip. Hopefully a potential abduction was prevented because of it. Criminals need to think twice before committing a crime against someone. You never know who may have the means to put you down with force, if need be. Look what happened a few months ago in Milwaukee when the maintenance guy was attacked. That sends a clear message.

I am sure if we investigate, we would find that this reporter is a democrate and a statist.
