Covington VA –-(Ammoland.com)- The BATFE is proposing to amend regulations to require that all gun dealers in the U.S. report multiple long gun sales.

From the Federal Register:

“The purpose of this information collection is to require Federal Firearms Licensees to report multiple sales or other dispositions whenever the licensee sells or otherwise disposes of two or more rifles within any five consecutive business days with the following characteristics: (a) Semi automatic; (b) a caliber greater than .22; and (c) the ability to accept a detachable magazine.”

BATFE is making commenting on this harder than us usual, but we have simplified it.

You can comment by sending an email to: Natisha Taylor at [email protected]

Suggested Subject: Reporting of multiple-rifle sales.

Suggested message:

Dear Ms. Taylor,

I OPPOSE the proposed information collection on sales of multiple rifles by Federal Firearms Licensees.

The collection of this information will serve no practical purpose for the agency, except as an unlawful gun-registration scheme. It will waste the time and resources of gun dealers, while criminals will easily get around the information collection by using multiple dealers, multiple straw purchases, and purchases extended over time.

Sincerely,

Lower receivers do not meet the criteria of reporting ,but it is the next step in wasting purchasers and FFL’s time.
If it takes more than 2 mins , the Feds should be paying us for our lost time as the are infringing on our 2 nd amendment rights for those minutes.

Danny Willard

I agree with you but for the feds to pay us, they must first collect money to give back to us. Feds need to keep their noses out of business. Originally the feds had the right to a post office, army, and a navy. Look what they are now. Control is all it is about.

You are missing the point, This is not about tracking sales or collecting data. This is solely about supressing a right.

CAM

This is just another small step towards registration. First it will be two long guns with “special Characteristics”, then one, then every gun.

@AZwoodie,yeah I know ! I was talking about regular lowers (complete and serial number) not 80% lowers. I build AR’s and have the stripped lowers sent to different FFL’s to avoid multiple firearms reporting to ATF. I have never used an 80% lower but might check them out.

It will do nothing but impose more hardship on legal gun owners.and FFL dealers

As a result of these changes they may be awash in data, but it will be archived data they can analyze at a later date. In effect it will be registration. BATFE like NSA, CIA and FBI archive data they may have no present use for in the hope it may be useful at a later date. A good example of the technique is the CIA’s VENONA archives of encrypted Russian Cold War era message traffic that is probably still being analyzed.

AZwoodie

@ RDNK That doesn’t matter to the 80% lowers as they are not “firearms”

Phil

If they do implement these changes, they will be awash in so much data, they won’t have manhours to process it all.

RDNK

Does that include stripped lowers ? Its already like that in Texas and the 3 other border states. The ATF are idiots ! All a person has to do is have your transfers done with different FFL’s. I guess they think people use the same FFL for all transfers.
