California Ammo Registration Bill Pending on Assembly Floor, Vote Likely Thursday

Charlotte, NC –-(Ammoland.com)- Monday, the state Assembly did not take up anti-gun Senate Bill 53, so it is still awaiting its final vote.

The next chance for SB 53 to be considered on the Assembly floor is this Thursday, June 19 2014.

It’s CRITICAL that you contact your state Assemblyman TODAY and urge him or her to OPPOSE this egregious legislation.

Contact information for your state legislator can be found here.

SB 53 would require the purchasers of ammunition to register with the state Department of Justice (DOJ) prior to purchasing any ammunition.  This registration would require the submission of fingerprints, a background check and fees to the DOJ.  If passed and enacted into law, SB 53 would require the collection and reporting of personal consumer information and thumbprinting for all ammunition purchases throughout the state.  It would also ban online and mail-order sales of all ammunition, including hunting and collectible ammunition.  In addition, SB 53 would require anyone wishing to exercise their fundamental right to keep and bear arms to obtain a costly ammunition purchaser permit that must be renewed every two years.

In doing so, SB 53 would impose drastic and unjustified restrictions on law-abiding gun owners while doing nothing to reduce violent crime.

Here are some talking points you can use to oppose SB 53 when talking to or e-mailing your state Assemblyman.

  • Ammunition registration was repealed by Congress as part of the Firearms Owners Protection Act of 1986.
  • SB 53 imposes identical restrictions on “handgun” ammunition to those contained in AB962.  Signed into law in 2009, AB 962 has yet to be enforced due to the pending lawsuit Parker v. California in the California Supreme Court.
  • In 2011, Governor Brown vetoed similar legislation sponsored by Senator de Leon.  Governor Brown instructed that another ammunition registration bill should not be considered prior to the resolution of Parker v. California.

Again, it’s CRITICAL that you contact your state Assemblyman TODAY and urge him or her to OPPOSE SB 53.  Contact information for your state legislator can be found here.

Don’t forget to forward this critical alert to your family, friends and fellow gun owners and sportsmen in California urging them to call their state Assemblyman also.  California needs everyone to help save its Second Amendment rights.

Actually, Jeffie, California turned anti-gun under Governor Ronald Reagan, who pushed for anti-open-carry legislation when the Black Panthers walked the streets of Oakland armed.

California turned anti gun after the surge of illegal immigrants in the 80’s and 90’s. People coming from countries like Mexico and China with very strict gun control traditions, and do not understand or care about the 2A. The guy who sponsored this bill, Deleon in the son of an illegal immigrant maid out of San Diego. He represents a district that has a lot of gun violence due to the high crime and gangs that go part and parcel with heavily immigrant communities. Rand Studies confirm that heavy immigration leads to more crime because of uprooted people etc. If… Read more »

California is a lost cause? So what we just shrugge cross our arms and do exactly what the progressives want? Nice to know that those of us who dont have the luxury to just pick up and move have the support of our country men and women across the nation. Yea ok give up on California, give up on New York and see what will at your door step before you know it. If you think this cant happen in texas or any other currently pro gun state then you are delusional.

James

Really want to thank you brain-dead idiots for throwing California under the bus, because as California goes, so goes the Nation. Pull your heads out and start using your brains. Not all Californians are Liberals.

Have a clue.

Look at the bright side. More mail order ammo for the rest of us. Maybe I will be able to find .22LR on a regular basis.

If I had the money right now I would move out of this sate and go some where better.

When I think of the SH*T hole called Kalifornia I think feinstein, boxer, pelosi ! These three bitches are heros to politicians in Kalifornia and to most the population or they wouldn’t keep reelecting these three bitches ! Nothing will change there anytime soon,if ever !

TEX

Kalifornia is a stellar example of why law-abidding citizens will always keep their firearms ! I can’t for the life of me understand why people who cherish their 2A freedoms stay in that f*cked up state ! Hell,Arizona is right next door !!!

I believe the NRA and others are going about this all wrong. California is a lost cause in so many ways, in terms of so many things. The NRA and the rest of us should not only condone this, but encourage this type of legislation because, as we all know, NONE OF THIS will stop crime or gun violence. Until we get some ‘non-brain-dead’ politicians that understand that it is the individual, not the tool they use, that is suspect, this posturing by self-centered ‘representatives’ (and I use that term extremely loosely) will continue, unabated. California will become a stellar… Read more »
