Wisconsin –-(Ammoland.com)- Wisconsin Carry’s mission statement offers that we s upport an individual’s right to carry in the manner of their choosing so long as th ey do so safely and legally. This principle is reflected in the 2nd Amendment of the US Constitution which says “the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed”. We are confident they were not just referring to handguns. While a handgun presents a more convenient firearm carry experience for most individuals, a rifle is a superior defensive tool in many situations. With the exception of its size, an openly carried rifle presents no different a circumstance than an openly carried pistol. In addition to its practical purpose in self-defense, the rifle is a symbol of American freedom. Our independence was won by patriots with long guns. The long gun provided food and protection for the families of our country’s pioneers. The rifle defeated tyranny around the world in the hands of our nation’s bravest sons and daughters. We still honor the his story and tradition of the rifle by public carry in color guards of parades, ceremonies, and our veteran’s funerals. We caution against making assumptions and judgments about why a person chooses to carry in any particular manner. We believe every individual has different motivations in their choice of carry ranging from self – defense, tradition, patriotism, and the knowledge that rights not exercised are rights lost. So long as an individual’s motivations do not involve criminal intent, it is un-American to impose your values and preferences on someone else. Gun owners, of all people, should embrace this truism. We caution pro-gun citizens that the circumstances of , and reaction to situations of individuals open carrying long guns have been misrepresented by main stream media who have a baseline anti-gun bias in their reporting. Main stream media reports of the context and public reaction to long gun open carry have been sensationalized and exaggerated at best and intentionally misrepresented at worst. Wisconsin Carry has observed, and then fact-checked media reports, to find headlines that not only misrepresent the reality of long gun open carry and public reaction to it, but a actually portray the OPPOSITE public response to the reality of what occurred. We remind gun rights advocates that main stream media has never given individual liberty and freedom a fair and unbiased reporting in the news even outside of right-to-carry. It would be wise of us to be very cautious to take media reports of long gun carry at face value. We do not believe any form of safe, legal carry “hurts the cause”. We believe pro-gun folks who fail to stand up and defend another individual’s right to carry in a safe, legal manner, even if they themselves choose not to carry in that manner, hurt the cause. For these reasons and more, Wisconsin Carry, Inc. and our Board of Directors stands beside and offers our full support of Open Carry Texas and any fellow patriot in Texas or around the country who exercises their individual constitutional right to safely carry in the manner of their choosing. Carry On! Nik Clark Chairman/President – Wisconsin Carry, Inc. – nik @wisconsincarry.org – www.wisconsincarry.org

Rod is incorrect. We do face dangers from other people. One has only to watch or read the news about gangs and individual criminals who are with us in our everyday lives and prey upon us at every opportunity. They can and do threaten us. One has only to go to a campground or even up scale RV park around here and there is a realistic chance of encounter with a dangerous animal or reptile. I have had 2 poisonous snakes and 4 coyotes in my yard in the past few years — and I live in a multi family… Read more »

Why doesn’t Wisconsin Carry have this statement of support on their website?

The 2A has no expiration date ! The Constitution, means nothing to them gungrabbing liberal sissys ! These are the same parasites that try to glamorize pervert, homosexual lifestyles and demonize firearms. They are the same scum that wants the govnt. to control every facet of your life ! The obama gestapo knows they will never confiscate firearms from law-abidding citizens in this country, never ! Whats going on in this country right now is why the 2A was written in the first place, to eradicate..govnt.tyranny !

omg. a rational voice in the mess…..rod and matt you are wonderful. what is common with these acts of school violence especially is medications AND guns. so logically outlaw guns and psychotropics. haha. No answer for that. Both are huge can of worms. I really do not know what the answer is but if there is mental illness in the house NO guns in the house. I just went thru a hi school shooting here in oregon and the owner of the ‘long’ gun had them very secure but his off minded son broke the code. sigh

In response to Rod. Sorry that the right to self defense bothers you so much. Your admiration for Obama tells us all we really need to know about you. If you really were “from 5 generations of law enforcement” (which I doubt) then you would know that there is a small segment of the public that is evil and will pray on others. Homicide in the U.S. is at a 50 year low, meanwhile gun ownership and the ability to carry a gun due to law changes has grown substantially. If you are from Canada how did that long gun… Read more »

I’m the most pro-gun guy you could meet… I agree with most of your post. In theory. But, to ignore the actual facts as to the outcome of this type of protest is just stupid. The protesters doing this in Calif only used pistols, dressed nicely, acted in a very subtle manner. Result, ALL open carry is now banned in the entire state. When 95% of people view open carry protesters as creepy weirdos, it doesn’t matter how great their ideas are or what great people they are. They truly do “hurt the cause” like no others. More so than… Read more »

If open carry were legal in nj and it is no and no concealed carry either, I would still open carry a handgun. During the fight for school integration in the 40s and 50s there were 2 camps. One was go for broke. This resulted in Brown vs board. the other camp had done integrate a border stae grad school and won integrate a border state college won. Integrate a border state professional school won. If not for these would brown have won. Les get concealed carry in nj and then get open carry of long guns.

Such a shame that Americans are still in the Stone Age when it comes to huns in modern times. The 2nd amendment is such an antiquainted act. These amendments were made when there actually was a need to carry weapons to protect oneself from harm or to survive by hunting our food. But today things are a little different. The natives don’t shoot at us, the west has been explored and tamed etc. The people that go walking around now with guns on their hips or slung over their shoulders in public, are no different than biker gangs. They like… Read more »

Well written and I concur. Too many people who really are ‘pro-gun’ are also indoctrinated into the belief of the mythical ‘right to not be disturbed by your actions’ and other PC legends.

I think it is fantastic that Wisconsin Carry Issued that statement in support of Texas Open Carry ! We too support you ! I’m still so pissed at the NRA for making that “bloomberg type” statement and then blaming it on a staffer. I will never be a member again ! Even some people that post on Ammoland say “Legal Open Carry hurts all of “us”,like they are really all of us ! They seem more concerned about where they can eat because some pissant restaraunt bans open carry and how we dress than our “Constitutional Rights” ! They like… Read more »
