New Jersey: Magazine Capacity Restriction Vetoed

Governor Christie Nixes Gun and Magazine Ban Legislation.

Charlotte, NC –-(Ammoland.com)- Today, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie (R) vetoed A.2006/S.993, sponsored by Assembly Majority Leader Louis Greenwald (D-6) and Senate Majority Leader Loretta Weinberg (D-37).

This legislation sought to arbitrarily lower New Jersey’s magazine restriction from fifteen rounds to ten.

New Jersey is one of only a handful of states that already has a restriction on the number of rounds permitted. Of course, criminals ignore the law, making such measures completely ineffective at addressing public safety and violent crime. Cities like Camden, Jersey City, Paterson, Newark and Trenton continue to experience high crime rates despite New Jersey having some of the toughest gun control laws in the nation. The state has had a fifteen-round magazine limit for about two decades and it has had zero impact on crime during that time.

Yet, New Jersey’s anti-gun legislators were poised to enact more of the same failed policies and continue their attack on law-abiding gun owners in the Garden State.

The NRA actively worked against these bills during this legislative session and testified in opposition to these anti-gun bills in both Senate and Assembly committee hearings at the Statehouse. We thank the hundreds of New Jersey NRA members who also traveled to Trenton to testify against these bills. Also, thank you to those NRA members who were unable to attend committee hearings and instead made phone calls to legislators and the Governor. Our unified effort made the difference!

Using the contact information provided below, please call and e-mail Governor Chris Christie to thank him for vetoing this anti-gun legislation and defending the Second Amendment.

Christie pardoned the PA nurse and five other people. Now he has vetoed bad legislation.
I’ll give him credit for the good deeds

WRONG !!! Gov. Christie did NOT VETO the Bill; nor did he SIGN it either; he AMENDED the complete bill; with a complete Bill to be reconsidered when the Legislature reconvenes. This action may delay any further actions until around/after the November elections. The Bill he substituted addresses MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES AND TREATMENT. Lots of good points in it, everyone should take a look at it. I’ve seenit but don’t remember where; NRA ILA will probably put out an article on it.

Christie on the surface seems like an OK guy but something about him seems he’d sell us out if he thought he could……just sayin’

In New Jersey we gun owners are poor beggars looking for crumbs of freedom. The governor not only did not take away a few crumbs he actually gave as a slice of stale bread.

It was known all along that Christie was going to wait until now to veto this bill. He waited on purpose. The legislative session just ended for their summer break. By waiting until now, he prevented them from bringing the ban up for another vote prior to the session ending. Which means if they want to vote again it has to wait until the fall. At that point everyone will be looking to the mid-term elections, etc and the magazine ban will be on the back burner until next year. Christie may be a idiot and have his own agenda… Read more »

Maybe he should of done this months ago, but he did it now and that’s a good thing.
Public pressure does work and once politicians understand that the People DO have a voice, they usually do the Right thing (until the next time). Applause and a “pat on the back helps as much a “threats” and cajoling. All we can do is keep fighting these idiots until they understand they work for us.

Don’t be fooled by this turd.

Criminals do not abide Laws already in the books. They will commit crime, any way they want. New Jersey gun owners are burden already, when it comes buying firearms in this state. The mentally ill needs help. We need to address these problems of gun violence. Not go after Law abiding citizens in this state.

Why in the hell does everyone want us to write and thank Christie for doing what he should had done months ago ? Christie didn’t want to veto this Unconstitutional bill he did it for personal political gain only.
