Arizona – -(Ammoland.com)- .22 rimfire is starting to become more available, as tremendous demand is being met.

From around the country I am hearing reports of more .22 rimfire being available, though supplies are still not sufficient to keep stores stocked.

My friend Jerry needed to purchase some shotgun ammunition for dove hunting, as I was taking his son and friend out as beginning hunters.   We drove to Wal Mart.   Shotgun ammunition has never been in short supply.

Wal Mart was out of dove loads!

Shooting dove with duck loads or buck shot is not a good idea.   I should explain that this is in the middle of dove season in Yuma, and after I had taken Joe, Jerry’s son hunting, we went out for brunch.

We had to wait over an hour to get a table, because all the restaurants in town were crowded with dove hunters that had come in for the season.

So, we went to a local gun shop and range, Sprauge’s.   They had lots of dove loads, at prices lower than Wal Mart’s.

We looked around the store, and I noticed that they had some .22 ammunition in stock, at almost reasonable prices.  $3.19 for a box of 50, is 6.38 cents per shot, much lower than it has been for a while.  I talked to the clerk, and she confirmed that two months ago, it had been $5 a box of 50, with a one box limit.  Now the limit was three boxes.   You could buy one 333 round box for a little over $21.  Standard velocity CCI was available for about 10 cents per round.

Wal Mart had no .22 RF in stock.

This all points to supply starting to meet demand.  Prices should drop, if we escape another political scare from the Obama administration.

By watching the market, talking nice to the fine folks at WalMart, and being in the right place at the right time, I have been able to acquire over 10,000 rounds of .22 LR over the past 12 months or so. I paid WalMart prices for it, too.

No, I am NOT scalping others by jacking up the prices; I bought this for my and my family’s PERSONAL use, now and in the future. I have also gifted some to friends. If others are just not motivated to plan and investigate, that is THEIR problem.

John and John Carr. I think you are both absolutely right about this. Although this is definitely happening these days I have a really hard time believing that ANY person could be so desperate for .22LR ammo, that they would ever consider paying these kind of outrageous prices for this ammo! To do so is accomplishing nothing more than feeding this ridiculous epidemic. No one seems to really know whom or what caused these alleged shortages of .22 LR ammo, or why. Although I really can’t imagine anyone being that desperate for .22 LR ammo, but if you truly are,… Read more »

My son picked me up a box of 1000 six months ago in Iowa for $59.95. Where I live now it cost a little over that much for just 500 rounds. There is no excuse for this kind of rip-off.

Hey Dean-support your independent gun shop!!!

Quick! Everyone run to Yuma so you can buy it all and then sell it for ten times more than you paid for it! THAT is the problem that we are facing today. You’ll see this type of behavior being praised on gun forums, since it’s a “free market” and we’re all supposed to circle jerk over how great and “American” that is, as if it’s some patriotic duty. The problem is that these types are only playing into the hands of gun grabbers who would love to see this become a hobby/sport/lifestyle that’s only available to the wealthy. Then,… Read more »

I have really been suprised lately how many people have 22LR weapons. During my life I have owned at least 6 22LR rifles but own zero now.I have my Marlin 783 22WMR that I have owned since ’81 and will never get rid of that rifle. I have 300 rds of ammo for the Marlin but will buy more when I run across some.I’m more into my 45’s, 308’s, and AR’s these days. I regret selling or trading most the 22LR’s I’ve owned over the years. I’m glad your ammo is coming back around and I would buy as much… Read more »

I’m glad it’s becoming more widely available, But this must be terrible news for all those greedy .22 ammo price gougers out there! I plan to buy plenty when the prices finally stabilize.
