Weekend Retreat Offered Members Life-Changing Experiences On and Off the Range
Raton, NM -(Ammoland.com)- A Girl & A Gun Women’s Shooting League (AG & AG) hosted the first Girl’s Getaway Presented by Remington from October 10-12, 2014, at the NRA Whittington Center.
Twenty-five members from around the country gathered for the retreat event. Expert firearms instructors were on site to provide one-on-one training for the participants. Rocky Mountain 3-Gun Match Director Denise Johnson created a natural terrain 3-gun course, while Olympic champion Brian Burrows made use of the Hakenjos Shooting Center to instruct the women in trap and sporting clays.
Remington Senior Product Specialist Ashley Kerr, along with instructor John Crowder, ensured that every shooter successfully hit targets out to 550-735 yards on the rifle range. Remington Arms, the Presenting Sponsor of the AG & AG Girl’s Getaway Program, emphasized its commitment to A Girl & A Gun in supporting women and girls in the shooting industry. The company provided ammunition for the weekend as well as three rifles and three shotguns for the ladies to use throughout the weekend as well as for future Girl’s Getaway events.
Other sponsors included LE Targets, Apex Tactical, Ergo Grips, Leupold Optics, Nordic Components, Winchester, and GunGoddess.com. In addition to firearms instruction, the retreat format included time for personal reflection. Life coach Kelley Moore of See Your Possibilities challenged the ladies to be open to new experiences during the weekend.

At the close of the weekend, the women celebrated their personal accomplishments and shooting successes with laughter, tears, and their own WARRIOR battle cry.
The next Girl’s Getaway will be February 1-3, 2015, at Shooter’s World in Tampa, Florida.

This is some exciting news for the shooting world. I have not heard of such a league before but very interested in helping spread the word about this league and the next shooting event being held in Tampa, FL. It’s great to see more women becoming interested in shooting and the proper safety techniques around it. Hopefully events and training like this will help reduce the number of crimes against women. Great to see this!
