Covington VA –-(Ammoland.com)- The Ed Gillespie campaign has begun responding to VCDL members who urged Ed Gillespie to return his VCDL Candidate Survey.

It’s an example of misdirection, where the response doesn’t address the VCDL survey at all, but instead refers to Ed’s endorsement by the NRA.

It does indicate support for certain key pro-gun issues, so why not just let us know about ALL of the key gun issues by answering the VCDL survey?

Part of the problem is that Ed is using Tucker Martin as a political consultant and Tucker has no use for grassroots gun owners. Tucker was part of the failed Jerry Kilgore for Governor campaign in 2005 and we were in the exact same position, with Kilgore refusing to return the VCDL survey but touting his NRA endorsement instead. Tucker said this in the Washington Times in October 2005 about Kilgore not returning the survey:

“‘While we have great respect for the members of the VCDL, their President Phillip Van Cleave unfortunately has no credibility on Second Amendment issues and that is why we did not participate,’ Mr. Martin said, declining to elaborate.”

This is a case where Gillespie would be wise to ignore Tucker’s advice.

A lot of you are responding back to Sandy Liddy Bourne saying that Ed needs to just answer the VCDL survey and to stop making excuses. Amen.

Here is the Gillespie form letter going out to gun owners:

Thanks for contacting us about the Second Amendment and gun rights.

As Virginia’s senator, Ed Gillespie would oppose efforts to infringe upon our Constitutional right to keep and bear arms, which is an individual right. He would not vote in favor of treaties that would cede firearm regulation to international bodies like the United Nations, in violation of the U.S. Constitution.

Senator Warner voted against the bi-partisan Senate rejection of the U.N. Arms Trade Treaty which could undermine our Second Amendment rights and infringe on U.S. sovereignty. Ed would have stood up for our Second Amendment Constitutional right.

Ed has earned the NRA’s endorsement in the Virginia Senate race and has received the highest rating they can give. Click here to read the NRA’s letter, which thanks Ed for his “steadfast support of the Second Amendment.”

Ed opposes the “universal” background check system, any United Nations’ or other global organization’s attempts to restrict our Second Amendment rights, and supports concealed carry reciprocity.

Senator Warner, on the other hand, has campaigned with New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who has also financially supported his campaign.

This November, join me in supporting Ed Gillespie, who will stand up for us and our Constitutional rights in the United States Senate. Click here to join “Sportsmen for Ed” and see what others are saying about Ed’s support for the Second Amendment.

Sincerely,

Mark Warner
Mark Warner

And Mark Warner has not responded about the survey yet, but a survey was placed directly in his hands by a member a couple of weeks ago at a political event.

He has no excuse for not returning his survey either.

We need to keep the pressure up on both Warner and Gillespie to return their survey immediately.

Elections are less than a month away now and we need some answers.

Well he answered all of the questions that are relevant and better than that he isn’t Mark Warner. Warner’s staff has replied too every email that I have sent them with the same canned response which reads that “Mark Warner does not support the banning of a type of weapon, instead Sen. Warner believes that a universal background check system would help stop gun violence.” Warner is a Democratic vote for a SCOTUS appointee a Democratic vote or gun registration. He believes in universal background checks, (gun registration!!!) Why would I as a firearm owner knowingly cast my vote for… Read more »
