Failure of Victim Selection Process in OK

Arizona – -(Ammoland.com)- It appears that the teen burglar did not read the papers.   It is foolish to burgle the house of a “vocal supporter of gun rights”, and then attack them in their home.

Tom Vinyard is the senior pastor of Windsor Hills Baptist Church, and has been outspoken in his political beliefs.

From newsok.com:

A pastor at a northwest Oklahoma City church who has been a vocal proponent of gun rights has been cleared of wrongdoing in the fatal shooting of a 14-year-old boy at the pastor’s home.

(snip)

The pastor arrived home about 3 p.m. and as he checked his house, he was attacked by the burglar, who had been hiding in a closet in a back bedroom, Prater said.

The pastor even put signs on his family’s home warning criminals of the danger:

From oklahomasentinel.com:

On December 23, police identified the alleged intruder as 14-year-old Keontre Reese.

Several signs are posted around the pastor’s home. One on the front door reads, “Nothing on this property is worth your life.”

While on a mission in Africa, Pastor Vinyard’s home was invaded and his skull fractured.   He and his family cooperated with the robbers, but it was not enough.  Highly restrictive gun laws in the country that they were in prevented them from being armed.

I suspect that the experience did much to shape and reinforce Pastor Vinyard into the second amendment supporter that he is.

It is sad that his fourteen year old attacker did not pay attention in Sunday school, if he went, and did not heed the warnings on Pastor Vinyard’s house.

It’s sad that this young teen died. We should all grieve that his family, community, and country did not do better.

HOWEVER, we cannot blame the man who killed him. In fact, he should be congratulated on having the skills and equipment that he has and using them to defend his home and family.

As David has said SOOOOO WEELLL,” another one bites the dust”

These are the kind of people that other’s are rioting, looting and raising havoc about. Though the wonderful ultra liberal media outlets make them out to be straight “A” student’s at prep school. I truly believe that the officer involved shootings the past few months have been absolutely justifiable and don’t have anything to do with race. If it had been a white boy shot no one would’ve heard about it. That’s racism at it’s finest! All the looters and people rioting say there doing it for a cause. Well yeah stealing TV’s and money and beating people, what’s a… Read more »

Another case of bad parenting , seems pictures of him wth guns , pictures of money and drugs filled his life. He found out that thug life is short , one way or another.

This is what should happen to nay and all burglars Even the Bible tells you that no man comes to your home in the dark/night to do good. So all these foos regardless of age should know and in fact since it is so damn common for the intruders to be black teens it should be a subject at school. Rule one, break into a mans house and he will kill you, so any one with common sense will not be dead, those who die weren’t worth saving anyway.

Greg

It is possible he could not read plain English. Shock! He thought he was untouchable. What a waste.

, The first thing I noticed, the kid was black, the preacher was white, Al Sharpton has not showed up here in Oklahoma, Obama and Holder have not called for the preacher to be locked up? No looting ,no burning, no nothing !! Make me proud to be a Okie !!

I kind of doubt that little Keontre could have even read the warning signs, let alone be smart enough to actually acknowledge them. Pay attention In school children. It will eventually pay dividends in the long run, e.g., you’ll be much more likely to actually get a long run…

David: San Antonio

…and “another one bites the dust…”

Bob G.

You are assuming that Mr. Reese (deceased) could actually comprehend standard written English.

Dr. Strangelove

That should read, “Another perp make a fatal mistake in the victim selection process.”

The only good prisoner, is a dead prisoner.

Cowboy Dan

Slowpoke, I hope you don’t work in law enforcement. I worked in a secure environment for several years and got to know a lot of inmates. Not well, we’re not buddies outside the joint. I’ve been in contact with ONE in twenty years. Every one of them is someone’s son, brother, husband, father, uncle or cousin. Something in them is worth something to somebody. I can tell you, too, that MOST inmates are just guys who got caught doing something stupid. Sooner or later, they’ll get out and go home. Some will reoffend, some will not. If we didn’t order… Read more »

If you know how to rehabilitate criminals and have the resources to do so, please do it. It will benefit everyone.

In the meantime, we have a right not to be threatened or attacked by robbers, and though it may be sad for their loved ones when they die that’s better than letting them rule over our communities.

William M Durham

I agree that to rehab is better. It should be a one time affair though. Give all prisoners one chance at a new life. Teach them a manual labor trade, pay them while they are doing the on the job training then help place them in a job. All this can be done if we stop running a motel instead of a prison. The once discharged if they return to crime/drugs or anything illegal, put them in a facility run by the federal government for life with no extra privileges or bennies. Make it a Louisiana style labor prison ,… Read more »
