Outdoor Edge Razor VX5 EDC Knife – Review

If you’re in the market for a razor blade EDC you ought to check out the Outdoor Edge Razor VX5.

The other day, I wrote a product Review on the Outdoor Edge Razor EDC Lite 2.5” Knife. I told how I had met up with Outdoor Edge marketing guru Karen Lutto Leatherman and that she had shown me their offerings. So today, we want to review the Outdoor Edge Razor VX5, which is also a replaceable blade EDC knife.

Outdoor Edge Razor VX5 EDC Knife

I’ve never considered a replaceable blade knife for an EDC, but it is probably a good idea for 95% of people because 95% of the knife carriers in the solar system can’t sharpen a knife. So why fool yourself and constantly work with a dull knife? Buy an Outdoor Edge Razor VX5, and when it gets dull, just slap on another blade.

Well, let’s get into the Product Review and see what characteristics we like on the Outdoor Edge Razor VX5 and what characteristics we wish that they’d add.

To begin with, the Outdoor Edge Razor VX5 is a full-sized folder. I like that. I don’t like little gentlemen’s knives, i.e., wimpy knives. I don’t like folders that require me to use tweezers to open the blade since the knife is so small, so to speak. It utilizes a flipper opening system, which works fine for me with a little flip of the wrist.

It utilizes a liner lock to lock the blade in place. The liner extends the full width onto the end of the blade but no more. Still, that is adequate and works fine. I have the feeling that the blade is firmly locked in place.

It has a full-sized handle, and even though it has a smooth handle surface, I feel like I have a firm grip, mainly due to the finger groove. Since my thumb lands forward of my pointer, I wish that it had ¾-inches of thumb grooves on top of the spine. That would really lock your grip in tight. But even without the thumb grooves, I feel like I have a firm grip. The Outdoor Edge Razor VX5 has a reversible pocket clip and carries the knife tip up.

I think that the handle is nice looking plus functional. Due to the finger guard I can have a firm grip.

As signified in the name and stated above, the Outdoor Edge Razor VX5 utilizes replaceable razor blades. Outdoor Edge came up with a good design that makes it quick, easy, and safe to remove the dull blades and install the new ones. Push the button on the front left side of the handle and pull the blade off.

Simply push the button and remove the blade.

You can remove the blade by grasping it from the bottom side, but I recommend grabbing it by the top. It is a lot safer to do it this way. To install the new blade, slide it into the blade slot and snap it in place. It is that easy.

Mine came with three extra blades, one of which is half-serrated. However, their website suggests that they offer five different blade choices.

I have never been accused of being Captain Safety, but please make sure that you properly dispose of your old blades. Don’t just frivolously throw them to the side or even into a waste can. Someone will get cut, and maybe badly. A hard plastic laundry soap bottle is a good way to dispose of them. Throw them in the bottle and then throw the bottle away.

The MSRP on the Outdoor Edge Razor VX5 is $69.99, and as is usual, we will close with the company specs:
