Washington, DC –Â -(Ammoland.com)- In July of 2016, after Governor Brown signed several anti-gun bills, a grassroots effort to refer the enacted legislation to the ballot was launched.
The petitions for that effort began distribution at locations across the state late last week with more locations becoming available every day. To locate a petition in your area click HERE.
Referendum Process:
Bills that have been passed by the legislature and signed into the law by the Governor may be prohibited from becoming law through a successful referendum. In order to qualify a referendum for the ballot must be submitted within 90 days of the Governor’s signature; the proponent must 1) present the referendum to the secretary of state; 2) be certified by the secretary of state; and 3) collect the required number of signatures and return them to the respective counties prior to the deadline. If successful, the measures will appear on the ballot for a vote of the people.  To read an analysis of the referendum process and the challenges that it faces, please click here. For a breakdown of deadlines and signature requirements please see below:

The success of Veto Gunmageddon effort depends on citizen involvement. This is a multi-year process assuming the effort gathers enough valid signatures by the deadline.
While gun rights organizations, including the NRA, were not responsible for initiating this citizen effort, we have provided legal assistance and will be making the petitions available at events across the state in conjunction with our state affiliate, the California Rifle and Pistol Association.
The NRA continues to fight for your Second Amendment Rights in California and will continue to pursue legal, political and legislative action to protect and preserve your Second Amendment rights. For an update on California legal matters please click here, legislative updates visit www.nraila.org and political activities visit www.nrapvf.org.

There are actually nine petitions. One petition is to use electronic signatures for future petitions and another petition is to have an option for a Jury Trial in child custody disputes.
Veto Gunmmageddon has partnered with V.O.T.E! to work together gathering signatures for each petition. V.O.T.E! has an extensive network that allowed VG to quickly get the petitions out and circulated for signature.
On facebook’s V.O.T.E! is where a lot of coordination is taking place. Go to V.O.T.E! [your California county] and help out. We need volunteers. Thank you.
If they were really supporting it they would be mailing it to their several hundred thousand members in Cali, with instructions and a return envelope to the campaign, and then it would easily qualify.
On Tuesday I signed the petitions. 7 gun related and 2 non gun related. One is for electronic signature gathering for future petitions. Anyway, Tuesday I signed and I brought 100 copies of the Veto Gunmageddon flyer. I stayed several hours helping gather signatures. I left and came back in the evening to close out the day at the Turner’s in Norwalk, CA. I took Wednesday off and put in another 7.5 hours gathering signatures. I was at the opening at the Turner’s at 10am until 2pm. Then back from 5:30pm until closing 8pm. Three volunteers (including me) rotated to… Read more »
Went to local gun shop yesterday and completed all 7 petitions. Wonder if I can sue the state of CA for the cramps developed in my hand after filling out documents to protect my rights I have under the constitution & bill of rights.
