Ft Collins, CO –-(Ammoland.com)- This past week DJT (Donlad J Trump), responding to last weekend’s shooting incidences in El Paso, TX, and Dayton, OH, called for “meaningful background checks” to be imposed at a federal level upon any American citizen who wants to make a retail purchase of a firearm.
As I listened, it struck me:
“Wait! We already have an instant background check system in place. Our NICS System has been in mandatory operation, nationwide, since 1998!”
Is our current NICS System suddenly “meaningless?”
Imitating his Democrat/socialist opponents, DJT never got specific, never told us exactly what he means by “meaningful” background checks.
Our current NICS System performs a thorough records check of a perspective gun purchaser’s criminal history.
Most felonies, particularly violent felonies, will instantly bounce the application, as will current arrest warrants and protection orders, and documented mental-health deficiencies.
We’re now left to wonder what additional information about an individual is to be added to the NICS-check, in an effort to make it “meaningful!”
Will we now include rumors, speculation, and supposition?
- Will social-media presentations/opinions arbitrarily deemed “inappropriate,” (ie: politically incorrect) now bounce my application?
- Will letters-to-the-editor of local newspapers containing “divergent” opinions, similarly veto my chance to be armed?
- Will my membership in certain organizations, like NRA, GOA, RAC (Rock Against Communism), represent an automatic prohibition?
- Will my use of certain non-government-approved language, like personal pronouns, or my occasionally thinking non-government-approved thoughts, do the same thing?
Gee Mr President, just how “perfect” do I have to be in order to exercise my Second-Amendment rights as an American citizen?
Just how do I go about “proving” to your satisfaction that I’m not mentally ill, nor in another arbitrary category of citizens whom someone has offhandedly decided “should not have guns?”

Please define “meaningful” BGC: Cross agency and government level data base of registered current, former or suspected gun owners? So much simpler when BATFE, FBI, DHS, US Marshalls, State level and local PD begin their nonspecific, warrantless, no-knock, prohibited firearm inspections/confiscations. We are headed for a time when the individual will be required to prove innocence versus the current requirement for Government to prove guilt. Make ready. Arm/prepare/organize/train/resist.
The congress HAS NO POWER OVER PRIVATE GUN SALES in state. They only attain power over interstate gun sales by PERVERTING the ” regulating interstate commerce” clause. The Constitution is clear, federal government has NO power over the fifty states as long as they obey the Constitution, the supreme law of the land. Federal agents have NO power in the 50 states. In Wyoming, any federal agent must register with the county Sheriff and be escorted by a deputy. Should they not follow the law, they are then common criminals. I’d just like to know how DJT thinks we should get all the felons and crazies that are planning a mass shooting to buy their firearms legally in a store, so they can find out they cannot pass a thorough background check ?

The CJIS and any number of background check data mining contractors do the information search on each subject poor person that is submitted to the FBI NICS background check system and most all those data mining companies do is gather all the crap that they see on the internet they never verify they never do a finalization of the searches and… Read more »
We already have backround checks. How come felons that are rejected aren’t arrested on the spot. While waiting for the answer the Feds could respond and remove them. Without some kind of response, a more intrusive “common sense” check is still just an annoying expansion of an existing law.
