I’ll start by saying that purely from a ballistic standpoint, I have no problem with any of these rounds – they each fill a ballistic niche and are useful in the AR platform. But otherwise, I’m not impressed with their utility. To make the .350 legend, they basically “magnumized” the old .351 WSL round the same way they “magnumized” the .38 Special to make the .357 Mag back in 1935, making it longer and operating at higher pressure. (A few thousandths in bullet diameter is trivial.) The other rounds are uncommon – unless you’re living near a BIG gun shop… Read more »
What states require a “straight-walled cartridge” and for what reason?
@laughing Jack mac
Ohio, southern Michigan, Indiana I believe, perhaps others further east and south.. And it is for deer/bear hunting
Straight wall cases are being adopted as legal for “Slug gun” only areas, the idea being that they don’t shoot as flat or as far as centerfire bottleneck cartridges. By stipulating “Straight Walled” they avoid having to approve cartridges individually. Some states also mandate a legal length for the case itself.
