Gun Owners Rejoice After Anti-Gun ATF Nominee Successfully Defeated

Springfield, VA -(AmmoLand.com)- Gun Owners of America (GOA) and its members are rejoicing that Chuck Canterbury has been withdrawn for consideration for head of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF).

“Despite high praises from some firearm-related lobbying organizations and silence from others, GOA sounded the alarm of Canterbury’s anti-gun history,” said Aidan Johnston, Director of Federal Affairs for GOA.

Canterbury’s support for gun control included:

  • Testifying in support of anti-gunners like Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor and Attorney General Eric Holder.
  • The Fraternal Order of Police (FOP), under his watch, backed Congressional measures to expand the unconstitutional and failing NICS system—the same system where 95 percent of the initial denials are false positives.
  • And on the state level, his FOP has supported Universal Background Checks and opposed Constitutional Carry.

Because of grassroots pressure applied by gun owners, many Senators began to doubt Canterbury’s commitment to the Constitution. In fact, Senator Mike Lee stated to Canterbury, “You’ve embraced a number of policies that run roughshod over the rights of law-abiding citizens in favor of the authority of the government.” Senator Lee was joined in his opposition to Canterbury by Senators Josh Hawley, John Kennedy, and Ben Sasse.

“Short of dismantling the ATF (which is the proper and Constitutional solution), the ATF’s leadership should not be seeking to enforce unconstitutional gun control. In fact, gun owners could use an ally dedicated to deregulation and who is committed to non-enforcement of any future gun control,” Johnston concluded.

Aidan Johnston, or another GOA spokesperson, is available for interviews. Gun Owners of America is a nonprofit grassroots lobbying organization dedicated to protecting the right to keep and bear arms without compromise. GOA represents over two million members and activists. For more information, visit GOA’s Press Center.

Serious Question, who voted for the ATF to be established? Did any citizen have a real say in it’s establishment? Follow up question: Who still wants the ATF? 2nd follow up, How is limiting all free citizens rights to bear arms through arbitrary tax stamps, trivial rules and descriptions of firearms, and no knock raids, not an infringement?

Wild Bill

@Yeet, The ATF was created by a memo, and can be disbanded by revoking that memo: Who or What is the BATF? by Dan Meador. B.A.T.F. from I.R.S. On June 6, 1972 Acting Secretary of the Treasury, Charles E. Walker signed Treasury Order Number 120-01 which establishes the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms. He did this with the stroke of his PEN citing, “by virtue of the authority vested in me as Secretary of the Treasury, including the authority in Reorganization Plan No. 26 of 1950.” He ordered the, “transfer, as specified herein, the functions, powers and duties of… Read more »

Wild Bill . . . Thank you.

Deplorable Bill

“The RIGHT of the people to keep and bear arms SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED.” If they can’t stand with the constitution they need to stand in another country. That goes for everyone who serves, legislates, judges, lawyers. If you can’t or won’t live up to the oath then get out of this country.

Arm up, carry on.

D B . . . Unfortunately, if you are an American citizen and demand your rights under the Second Amendment to the Constitution of the United States, the government will KILL YOU!!!

Grigori

So who will Donnie Boy next nominate to this position to “protect our gun rights”, Chuck Schumer, Bloomberg, Hillary?

Wild Bill

@G, Who Donnie Boy nominates next is up to us. Maybe we should be talking amongst ourselves about who and then write in!

Wild Bill

Really? No one? It is a political appointment. The nominee does not have to know the difference between “sic him” and “come here.” Any of us could be the nominee. Are there no unemployed Second Amendment supporters?
