For the hot-button issue that it is and considering that millions of voters will base their 2024 election choices on where a candidate stands, gun laws were scarcely mentioned in Wednesday’s second Republican presidential candidate debate at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California. A review of the debate transcript shows the word “gun” was only brought up six times and was used by a moderator to invent and then promulgate an absolute, easily disprovable lie that went unchallenged by each candidate.
The moderator in question was Univision’s Ilia Calderón, and she addressed her question to North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum:
“Governor Burgum, for the first time ever, a Univision poll found that mass shootings and gun safety are one of the most important issues for Latino voters. Mental health concerns are not unique to the United States, but gun violence is.”
A supposed “journalist” (and Emmy winner!) from the land made infamous by its corrupt government and bloodthirsty drug cartels, “reporting” for a multinational media giant headquartered in Mexico, another corrupt country overrun by monstrously homicidal drug kingpins, asserts that “gun violence” is “unique to the United States” and not one co-moderator and not one candidate called her delusional on it and chastised her for exploiting the event with transparent propagandizing?
Looking at the numbers:
“Since 2015, the national homicide rate in Mexico has increased by 76.3 percent, with the total number of homicides over this seven-year period reaching 211,000… Mexico’s homicide rate remains near historical highs, at 26.6 deaths per 100,000 people, resulting in over 34,000 victims. This equates to 94 homicides per day on average in 2021. Mexico’s homicide rate is also high by international standards, although it is broadly aligned with other large Latin American nations such as Brazil and Colombia.”
Columbia—where “journalist” Calderón is from…
And how were all these Mexican homicides committed?
“Homicides in Mexico by weapon- Firearms were the leading cause of death for both male and female homicide victims. Between 2015 and 2021, the proportion of male homicides committed with a firearm rose from 60.9 percent to 71.3 percent, while the proportion of female firearm homicides rose from 37.8 percent to 56.8 percent. These numbers show that in the past seven years, guns have become the primary means of homicide for both men and women in Mexico.”
Per the “How Safe is Mexico?” website:
“According to the UNHCR [United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees], Mexico has a murder rate of 16.9 per 100,000 inhabitants, making it the 15th highest in the world and seven times higher than that of the United States, as compared to Mexico’s murder rate vs the US.”
As for Calderón then demanding to know what “laws” the candidates would impose on U.S. gun owners, that hides the reality that Mexico already imposes citizen disarmament edicts on its populace that would put it off the charts on the Giffords scale that rates California as an “A.”
While the Mexican Constitution supposedly acknowledges a right to keep and bear arms, in practice, per MexLaw, the restrictions on calibers and on carrying outside the home, along with permit licensing, registration, and the lack of any authorized gun store for citizens outside of the Directorate of Commercialization of Arms and Munitions in Mexico City puts the “law-abiding” squarely at the mercy of the merciless.
That, of course, does nothing to keep the cartels from obtaining and using military-grade weaponry, much of it obtained from corrupt government officials tasked with combatting them, and, as we saw a few years back, from ATF pressuring FFLs and then turning a deliberate blind eye so that “walked” guns could be found next to bodies at crime scenes, fueling demands to ban them here.
It makes fair the question, ¿Cómo se Dice “Gaslighting” en Español?”
Millions of people inclined to vote watched Wednesday’s debate and came away from it hearing that “gun violence is unique to the United States.” Significantly fewer will be privy to the real facts, and of those, like AmmoLand readers, they already know that Mexico is a violence-plagued hellhole where “gun control” has utterly failed. And aside from a readership significantly smaller than mainstream media audiences, tech giant Google’s algorithms suppress this content on its news feed, making it unlikely anyone outside the gun rights advocacy niche will ever see it – and that’s been going on for years now.

First off: She shouldn’t have been there in the first place and I don’t care what she thinks about the USA, and why in the hell would we care what Mexico thinks of us or the remainder of the world for that matter unless we have a weak, old, tired senile thief for president. FJB Second, I could barely understand her and in my books just having her their proves that the RINO GOP is doing everything it can to show it is woke and not prejudice catering to the weak republicans and trying to get some of the left… Read more »
One of the ways to elect a Republican president and gain control of both House and Senate is to garner votes from the Latino community. That’s why she was there. No comment on whether this ploy by Fox will work. No comment on the growing percentage of Latinos making up our voting population. It’s up to each individual to balance standing rigidly on your principals and losing everything vs. bending to reality and winning.
To answer the question, “What would happen if X, Y, and Z became true” it is helpful to look for past cases when X, Y, and Z became true and consider the results. There have been periods when the GOP held the House, the Senate, and the Presidency. They jumped right in and began rolling back infringements of RKBA like a house on fire, right? No, they most certainly did not ,and I for one don’t expect anything like that to happen if they gain all of the reins of power any time in the future. I suspect we’d see… Read more »
@DDS, there was a DDS in my professional past. Directory Data Service perhaps. No matter. Too long ago to remember. You are right of course but you did not consider the alternative. For now it is the lesser of two weevils. There are really just two solutions and the first is getting resolute 2A supporters to run for office, win primaries and ultimately elections. The major obstacle here is the people we need are not the type of people who want to hold office. And remember the old adage: “The type of people you need in office are not the… Read more »
There are other possibilities, perhaps too many to list here. One that comes to mind is to simply make ourselves “ungovernable.” Mike Vanderboegh touched on it with his “Defy, Resist, Evade, Smuggle” mantra. I’ve mentioned him here before, but it bears repeating that a family friend, a Biden supporting gun owner (they do in fact exist), said “Pot has been illegal since before I was born. Yet I’ve been smoking it all my adult life, What makes you think I give a f**k what gun laws they pass?” Police forces all over the country are understaffed and shrinking. All of… Read more »
Yeah, I get it. They can’t jail all of us but they can fine us into impoverishment and make us felons so we can’t legally own firearms and ammo. They will have room for frequent and flagrant offenders. I view what you are saying as little more than a prelude to unavoidable conflict. And the way our elected officials piss away money and ignore laws, monetary and subsequent social collapse may not be that far away. In the mean time I’m thinking about this: https://www.fanucamerica.com/products/cnc/5-axis-cnc-machining And are you calling me perverse? I own all sorts of stuff only because a… Read more »
I do not accept the validity of your “stand and lose or bend over and win” paradigm.
MAGA! TRUMP 2024!
The RNC and its class of consultants cannot get out of their own way. The dig a pit for their enemies and then fall right in to it. Why would you invite a propaganda mill from the 3rd World to comment on American domestic policy? Central America and Mexico are not models for development nor are they models for effective law enforcement. The Republicans are self destructing once again.
Throw Barrack Obama, Eric Holder and the idiot Joe Biden in jail for ” Fast and furious and a big part of Mexico’s problem would be solved . These 3 idiots alone armed the Mexican cartels with American guns . Hold them accountable for thier criminal actions now !
Don’t forget Barry ‘n Joe also had a second F&F that armed the Taliban with US military weapons.
POLY TICKS…the game PARASITES play. She is a typical bought and paid for media whore that lies for a living.
doesn’t America have enough problems without focusing on mexico? come on people, wake up. this is another diversion from America’s real problem. a corrupt and evil government, i think. do not re elect anyone. elect all new members to congress and the first order of business is to stop all lobbyists and foreign money in politics.
Republicans…….they play to lose
it wouldn’t surprise me to learn Calderon is on the payroll of a cartel as they would stand to gain much if gun control advanced here within the US.

I only heard bits and snippets on the radio, but I wondered who the goofy Hispanic female was who kept asking stupid questions.
