Colt Introduces a Blued Python: A Premium Revolver That Defines Elegance

Colt has taken the envelope and aesthetic of the original Colt Python and created a more consistent user experience from shot to shot.

Colt Python 357 Magnum Blued Revolver

The tried-and-true design has evolved, adapting to changing needs and incorporating modern manufacturing to maintain its reliability and effectiveness. While the new Blued Pythons are true to the original in many ways, they also include these modern upgrades, making them even better!

A Blued Python has been the number one request ever since Colt launched the new Python in stainless only four short years ago.

“The classic carbon steeled Blued Python serves as a passport to a bygone era, where firearms were not just tools but also exquisite works of art.” – Justin Baldini, Vice President of Marketing

The Python is a 357 Magnum, double-action revolver. The initial barrel lengths offered on this new Blued Python are 4.25” and 6”. This revolver features a target adjustable rear sight, as well as a user-replaceable front sight, using a set screw for retention. This gun has the updated action with its stainless cousin. The refined action has proven to be extremely robust and requires no hand-fitting, for a consistent trigger-pull. The Walnut Grips have been updated with a Gold Medallion, as is historically color correct for a Blued Python. The tried-and-true Blued Python has evolved, adapting to changing needs and incorporating modern manufacturing to maintain its reliability and effectiveness.

Colt has shipped just over a thousand Blued Pythons already in anticipation of the SHOT Show launch and continues to make more every single day. The new Pythons boast an MSRP of $1,599.

Come on man, it’s a Colt.

Admittedly, most of my centerfire revolvers are relatively modern S&W’s. Mostly 66/686 and 629 variants. I can certainly appreciate a nicely fit and finished blued revolver, but I never warmed up to the Colt’s. I look at the proportions and shape of the Python and Anaconda and think to myself, “damned but that’s ugly. I still might break down and waste a few hundred dollars on an Anaconda I do not need, just to have one.

It looks so pretty in the photos that I was tempted. But watch the embedded NRA video. Aside from the fingerprints that detract from it’s glossy finish, the side of the frame is uneven. It appears someone in the polishing department aggressively took a bunch of metal off in a couple places. You can see it in the way light reflects off the side. I wonder if the stainless versions have the same problem. Or the originals for that matter.

From the article: they also include these modern upgrades, making them even better! So did you say that since you bought the company from America you fixed the light primer strike problem and now you can shoot any brand ammunition through them or is it if you have the problem you need to find the ammo that will work with your gun and stick with it like it was before you bought the company! I liked the new idea of having a firing pin guard because then you could carry on all six and not worry about the gun firing… Read more »
