A new “study” by Everytown for Gun Safety, which claims that 298,000 lives could be saved if all states adopted strict gun control policies like California, is “misleading at best,” the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms said in reaction.
“While Everytown says California is the top state for so-called ‘gun safety policies,’ the homicide body count tells a different story,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb.
“Based on 2022 data, the most recent year for which statistics are available, California reported the most murders of any state in the nation. In second and third place for this year are New York and Illinois, which simply defies logic.
“One of the signals this is bogus research is the way Everytown graded Washington State, where the Citizens Committee is headquartered,” he continued. “Washington is position ninth on the list, and is described as ‘making progress.’ The state has adopted increasingly restrictive gun laws in recent years, and the number of homicides has more than doubled since 2014, according to FBI data and statistics from the Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs. Seattle just set a new homicide record in 2023. If that’s what Everytown calls ‘making progress,’ we would be better off going back to living in caves.
“The only conclusion one can draw is that Everytown is far more interested in restricting the rights of honest citizens than it is in reducing violent crime or taking violent criminals off the street,” he added.
CNN reported the Everytown study “as though it were gospel,” Gottlieb observed. He said this is just another example of media bias, “willing to accept anything from gun control groups without the least bit of skepticism.”
“If the Citizens Committee ever released a report on the benefits of concealed carry,” Gottlieb stated, “you can bet the media would dissect every syllable just to see if they could dismiss the data as unbelievable.”
Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms
With over 650,000 members and supporters nationwide, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (www.ccrkba.org) is one of the nation’s premier gun rights organizations. As a non-profit organization, the Citizens Committee is dedicated to preserving firearm freedoms through active lobbying of elected officials and facilitating grass-roots organizations of gun rights activists in local communities throughout the United States.
My favorite is when they post “gun violence per capita rates” by using all gun deaths, including police shootings, self defense, suicide, accidents, and homicides in their total numbers versus separating them out to show gun deaths by category. Then they tell you that Iowa or some small state with easy gun laws has a huge gun violence per capita rate (about 190 average in Iowa), while California (with super strict gun control) has a low gun violence death rate (over 4,000 annual). But if they being honest and showing you just unjustified homicides suddenly Iowa (it’s just one example)… Read more »
I agree with Everybiddy For Gun Safety. Everyone knows that Karens With Laws and politicians’ laws save lives. Just look at “Thou Shalt Not Kill.” And, then, there is Murder 1, Murder 2, Manslaughter, et el. We all see how effective laws are in preventing violence.
The late Col Jeff Cooper commented in 1958, “Killing is a matter of will, not means. You cannot control the intent by passing laws about the means.”
Hit it, Sam:
Politicians with laws never stop bad guys with guns, evil intent.
They only control the good guys, which is their true agenda.
I will quote Robert A. Heinlein, from his book ‘Beyond This Horizon’ 1942
”And armed society is a polite society manners are good when one may have to back up their actions with their life.” Wise words.
I’m shocked! Gun prohibitionists think that their lives are so much more important than police or military. They want THEM to protect them from bad guys even though they are never there when a bad guy is. They do not operate using reason, logic and common sense. They are IRRESPONSIBLE people who want someone ELSE to protect them rather than being responsible grown ups who are willing to learn and train to be able to protect themselves, their families and their neighbors. They will cower in a freezer in a grocery store or hide under a desk in a school… Read more »
Gun control is a steady aim.
I disagree with the title. I think that strict gun laws should be enforced that say it is legal to carry concealed at all times in all places actually make the street a safer place to be like the 2nd amendment intended.
So, part of the title (strict gun laws save lives) is right, Everytown just has it wrong and they live a big lie.
The 2nd amendment is a strict gun law. They should use that one first as intended because then they would not need any other laws.
