New York: Senate Democrats Are Destroying Gun Safety By Removing NRA Trainer Certification

Second Amendment But Liars Democrats Fake Lies

More proof positive that New York Senate Democrats have never cared about “gun safety.”

On Monday, February 5, the Senate Codes Committee is set to move on S.138A, which strips NRA certified instructors from state statute.  Certifications expire Dec. 31, 2026, and the Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) will then be responsible for creating curricula and promulgating rules and standards for trainer certification.  Of course, there is zero evidence that they are willing or even capable of taking on the task.

This bill passed the Senate last year, but it did not clear the Assembly before they ended their 2023 session.  They are now bringing this legislation back early in the 2024 session, and everyone should be concerned.

Please contact members of the Codes Committee immediately and respectfully request a “no” vote on S.138A by clicking the Take Action button below.

For decades, the NRA has certified hundreds of thousands of trainers and has been the gold standard for firearms safety programs.  There is no rationale for this move to eliminate these trainers, but the motivation is obviously purely political. This ill-conceived bill will impact almost everyone who carries concealed in New York as it will almost certainly throw the entire system into chaos, if not completely shut it down.  Arguably every New Yorker is going to be impacted because they are eliminating firearms safety training as we know it.

The agenda of Albany’s anti-gun Democrat Majority has become all too apparent – release criminals and disarm honest, law-abiding citizens.  This has proven to be a recipe for disaster.  For all their disingenuous talk about “gun safety,” eliminating the best training in the world seems to be more folly.

This is a direct consequence of the internal rot of the NRA created by LaPierre and crew. When your house is rotten, others will tear it down for you. I expect attacks on the once great NRA to continue as long as the current leadership exists. Lapierre and his cronies need to go.

Rob

I disagree. NRA certifications are the Gold Standard with respect to training. I believe this act is a Hochul-fueled attack on anything that says “NRA” (NRA = guns, no-nos in NY). When this goes through who will perform the training? No one. Which is exactly what the Empire State Witch wants. What short-sighted, spiteful reactions that do more harm than good. I left NY years ago when the only issue was the Sullivan Law. Look at the mess that now exists!

Part of the plan behind this leftist move to prosecute Lapierre specifically, and the NRA in general is to create a rift in the NRA membership, causing a rapid and significant loss in membership dues.

Reading some comments, I’d say their plan is working.

Hochul and Letitia James were not around when LaPierre and crew went off mission and changed focus from the 2nd amendment to money, money, money. Since that time the NRA has been ineffective, unless your compensation package is 2.5 million dollars. The NRA has a responsibility to stay on target, fulfilling it’s mission as stated in corporate bylaws. When the leadership focus went a different direction, the anti – NRA New York lefties had everything they needed to attack. The only way to save the NRA is to cut out the infection.

I believe Lapierre’s resignation was effective Jan 31, 2024.

Yes, it was, but unfortunately his recently elevated stooge, Andrew Arulanandam, has taken his place. If you are a voting member then don’t forget to immediately return your ballot when it arrives in the coming month and only vote for Buzz Mills, Rocky Marshal, Jeffrey Knox, Phillip Journey and Dennis Fusaro.

Hopefully Wayne’s retirement will take him next to jail. But he will probably get the J. Biden treatment because he has a ‘bad’ memory.

Same here, but I will vote the bullet method this year. It will be the first time I have voted since 1992.

Right on Ope. The only thing I might quarrel with, although that is probably the wrong way to say it, is: In my calculations, the last fifteen years is actually more like 32 years or more. When I was much younger I really didn’t have enough time to read all the fine print, don’t you know?

Calif in the process or just did the same thing. Infringe on CCW (maybe a gift, maybe the CCW permit, which is a gift the state permits, itself needs to get tossed by a court) permits by making required training impossible to get. F these totalitarians. Enough. They need to all hang for treason.

Commiefornia removed all of the trainers with IRA certification leaving training required for a ccw scarce and more expensive. They also require 16 hours of training for a new ccw and 8 hours for renewal. They are trying to make it impossible to get a ccw by putting up more roadblocks. Does anyone know if anyone is suing the state over these latest b.s. moves?

Connecticut did the same thing last year. They’re making it harder for citizens to get their permit. The Democrats will do anything to prevent people from exercising their rights as recognized by our Second Amendment.

NRA was like other conservative functions before them. They were cordial with the leftist beasts for nothing!

This is a twofer for the commies. They’re obstructing citizens from exercising their rights and taking away peoples’ livelihood. The state also scores Orwellian points for a “gun safety” measure that will leave its subjects less able to defend themselves. At least those that comply.

The states that are doing this are definitely giving the middle finger to the NRA.

The fact that NRA remained incorporated in NY State thirty years after they were warned to move to a friendly state says volumes about their hubris at the executive level. This is all self-inflicted. The allegations of financial mismanagement and misappropriation are all due to self-inflicted abuse. It is so sad this once great American institution has been taken down by personal greed. But anything within 100 miles of the Washington Monument has been infected by the virus of federal hubris. No surprise NRA caught a terminal case.
