Monrovia Woman Successfully Defends Home, Fatally Shoots Armed Intruder ~ VIDEO

MONROVIA, CA – In a dramatic and tragic event, a Monrovia woman fatally shot a man who violated a restraining order and appeared at her home armed with knives.

The incident occurred on Friday night in the 400 block of S. Shamrock Avenue, leaving the community in shock but also shining light on important discussions about proactive self-defense and personal safety when police are “only” multiple minutes away.

Around 9:20 p.m., Monrovia police officers responded to a distress call from the woman, who reported that a man with a restraining order against him was at her home, armed and threatening violence. The suspect, identified as 42-year-old Thanh Cong Le, was found dead with a gunshot wound when officers arrived at the scene.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Le attempted to stab the woman and another man inside the home. In a desperate act of self-defense, the woman discharged her firearm, ultimately stopping the threat.

Neighbors, including Paulette Polk, expressed their shock and concern. “He did not live there, but I had minimal experience with him, and it was not pleasant,” Polk stated. She recalled seeing Le around the property multiple times over the past six months and believed he was involved with the woman living there.

The situation was further complicated by Le’s apparent presence at the house just days before, fixing a fence. This proximity, despite the restraining order, hints at a turbulent relationship.

No arrests have been made, and both the woman and the other man involved provided voluntary statements to the authorities. Several knives and a firearm were recovered from the scene, proving for all the imminent danger faced by the residents.

While the investigation continues, this incident underscores the critical importance of personal safety measures and the right to self-defense. In a community where residents value their safety and the protection of their loved ones, this event serves as a stark reminder of the challenges some face in ensuring their security.

And I thought (as reported here often) that people in Ca. weren’t allowed to own guns.
