President Joe Biden went on television Wednesday for 11 minutes to tell the nation what the nation already knew: He has left the race for re-election, and even Fox News’ Brit Hume says he “doesn’t quite buy Biden’s reasoning for dropping out of the presidential race,” the network is reporting.
Biden’s questionable explanation that he is “passing the torch” seemed like a flimsy way of saying the torch was actually pulled from his grasp. As noted by Reuters, the president made reference to the alleged threat Donald Trump poses to democracy, which some observers are dismissing as nonsense, since Trump didn’t destroy democracy when he was in office from, 2017 to 2021.
He unintentionally confirmed what AmmoLand reported July 10: “Democrats are willing to throw Biden under the nearest Chicago Transit Authority bus in order to retain power.” So, while Reuters reports how Biden “spent days soul-searching and agonizing over internal polling that showed he could lose to Trump in November and drag down fellow Democrats with him before stepping aside,” clearly, this is not about “saving our democracy,” but really about salvaging the Democratic party, which is in a shambles.
One day before, Presidential replacement candidate Kamala Harris’ first campaign speech in Milwaukee a week after the Republican National Convention was held in that city only underscored her well-documented commitment to gun prohibition, as well as the hypocrisy of her message regarding political fundraising.
According to WISN News, Harris “emphasized the need for stricter gun control measures.” She offered a rehash of the gun control agenda which she has shared with President Joe Biden: a ban on so-called “assault weapons” and “universal background checks,” neither of which has been effective in preventing criminals from getting firearms illicitly in states where such bans are in effect.
Harris was quoted declaring, “We will finally pass red flag laws, universal background checks, and an assault weapons ban.” It’s the same message Biden has been repeating since he was campaigning for the presidency in 2020. Just because Biden has been forced to bow out, his gun prohibition agenda will live on with the Harris campaign.
It was enough to compel Alan Gottlieb at the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms to declare Harris is even more radical than Biden on gun control extremism.
“Since her days in the California Legislature, Kamala Harris has been an ardent gun prohibitionist,” Gottlieb said. “When she first arrived at the U.S. Senate, she co-sponsored gun control legislation to ban so-called ‘assault weapons.’ When she ran for president in 2020, she called for a ‘mandatory buy-back’ program, which translates to compensated gun confiscation.”
Harris also decried Trump as a man who is “relying on support from billionaires and big corporations” before heading to Maryland for what CNN described as an event at the home of a “top executive at JP Morgan Chase” in Chevy Chase, where “well-heeled supporters” could meet her.
In a separate report, CNN is noting how Hollywood “has been reignited and is ready to back the party’s new presumptive nominee, Vice President Kamala Harris, as she fights against former President Donald Trump.”
Typical of Democrats, when big money donors write checks to their campaigns, it’s okay. Only when contributions go to Republicans does that money become tainted.
As detailed in this previous AmmoLand report, Harris is a well-known quantity when it comes to gun control.
In Milwaukee, according to the WISN report, Harris told her audience, “We believe in freedom.” However, that belief hits a wall when it applies to the freedom to keep and bear arms, which is protected by the Second Amendment and the state constitutions in more than 40 states, including Wisconsin, where Article 1, Section 25 of the state constitution reads, “The people have the right to keep and bear arms for security, defense, hunting, recreation or any other lawful purpose.” See the complete list at the Second Amendment Foundation website.
In their draft of the 2024 Party Platform, Democrats devote a whole section to gun control, which will now have to be rewritten to remove references to Biden and instead insert Harris’ name, since she appears to have the necessary delegate votes to secure the nomination.
“All Americans deserve freedom from fear, women deserve a president who has committed his life to ending violence against women, and families deserve a president who has delivered safer neighborhoods,” the draft says. “Under President Biden and Vice President Harris, in 2023, the murder rate saw the sharpest decrease in history and violent crime fell to one of the lowest levels in more than 50 years. Democrats made the largest-ever federal investment in public safety and violence prevention, putting more police officers on beat for accountable community policing. We need to fund the police, not defund the police. President Biden and Vice President Harris and Democrats in Congress defeated the gun lobby and passed the first significant federal gun safety law in nearly 30 years. President Biden took historic action by pardoning people convicted federally for using or possessing marijuana.
“Democrats will take on common sense solutions to gun violence, including universal background checks, safe storage requirements, and a ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines. President Biden will advance his Safer America Plan, which calls on Congress to invest $37 billion to support law enforcement and crime prevention – including funding for 100,000 additional police officers for accountable community policing and investing $5 billion in community violence interventions, building trust between law enforcement and the communities they serve. Democrats will also take action to expunge federal marijuana-only convictions.”
In their draft headline, the party says the platform is designed to allow Biden and Harris to “finish the job.” It is essentially an acknowledgment the Biden-Harris administration has been waging war on gun rights since Jan. 20, 2021.
No doubt this draft language is undergoing some rewriting in preparation for the DNC convention in Chicago in three weeks. Almost certain to not be included is an admission that many Democrats supported “defund the police” efforts before reality blew up in their faces.
When the House Oversight Committee met earlier in the week to blister now-departed Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle, the Daily Signal noted committee Democrats used the hearing to “call for gun control.” The party cannot let go of its crusade to reduce a constitutionally protected fundamental right to the level of a heavily regulated government privilege.
In the process, Democrats are engaged in the biggest irony of all. To “protect Democracy” from Trump, they’ve essentially disenfranchised 14-16 million primary voters and, according to Bloomberg News, “A panel of Democratic stalwarts will meet Wednesday to complete a rule change to allow Vice President Kamala Harris to accept her party’s nomination for president weeks in advance of the party’s convention in Chicago.”
