A new Rasmussen survey released Thursday shows Vice President Kamala Harris still lagging behind former President Donald Trump, despite her efforts to moderate her previous positions on a variety of issues, including a shift away from the proposed “mandatory buyback” of semiautomatic rifles.
According to Rasmussen, a recent national telephone and online survey of likely U.S. voters revealed Trump is ahead of Harris 49-44 percent, with 3 percent saying the would vote for someone else and 2 percent saying they are undecided.
However, a different poll, by Emerson College, says Harris is ahead of Trump 50-46 percent, with five percent of voters remaining undecided. The Emerson survey also says 51 percent of votes have a favorable view of the vice president, while 49 percent share an unfavorable view of Harris.
And another new poll by Outward Intelligence shows Harris up by 6 points. According to this polling outfit, the breakdown shows “Democrats (90% – 5%) and Republicans (89% – 5%) equally support their candidates, while Independents skew to the Vice President by 8 points (45% for Harris, vs 37% for Trump).” This survey says women back Harris by 53-40 percent while men are behind Trump 46-45 percent. Minorities (Blacks, Asians and Hispanics) reportedly support Harris by 64, 26 and 15 points, respectively, while whites support Trump by 4 points, the survey says.
In the Emerson poll, Trump doesn’t fare well when it comes to favoritism, either. The survey said 54 percent have an unfavorable view of Trump against the 45 percent who have a favorable opinion.
As noted by Fox News, when Harris was campaigning for the presidency back in 2019, she advocated for a mandatory gun buyback program, which translates to “compensated confiscation” of legally-purchased semiautomatic rifles.
Rasmussen’s survey also revealed something else which is probably raising alarms in the Harris camp.
“Trump continues to lead by a substantial margin among independents,” Rasmussen reported. “In a two-way matchup between Trump and Harris, 86% of Republicans would vote for Trump, while 82% of Democrats would vote for Harris. Among voters unaffiliated with either major party, 49% favor Trump, while 40% prefer Harris. In a six-way matchup, Trump’s maintains his nine-point advantage among independents, with five percent (5%) of unaffiliated voters going for RFK Jr.”
This means Trump still holds a substantial lead among Independent voters. With the Democratic National Convention looming next week in Chicago, there is likely to be a bump for the Harris and running mate Gov. Tim Walz of Minnesota, but such honeymoons are often short-lived, especially when Harris continues to not give interviews.
It will be important to pay attention to any comments on “gun safety” or “gun reform” mentioned during the Democrat gathering, and whether gun control becomes part of the party platform for 2024.
Harris has also been accused of having purloined Trump’s campaign pledge from several months ago to stop taxing tips, an important issue among people employed as waitresses and bartenders, and others in service-type jobs.
The vice president’s chameleon-type policy changes have garnered severe criticism from former Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard. In a statement quoted by Fox News, Gabbard called Harris “an empty suit.”
“They are trying to create this new version of Kamala Harris to match what their pollsters are telling them,” Gabbard observed, “so she can say whatever she needs to say to try to win over voters, which is the most offensive thing, I think, because they think we’re so stupid as to forget what her record actually is.”
Later in her remarks, Gabbard warned, “We have to pay attention to her actions, because on every single major issue, you will see that same kind of hypocrisy that I pointed out in 2019 where she’ll say one thing, but her record tells a very, very different story.”
The Harris campaign may get away with that among younger voters, at least for the time being. As noted by Rasmussen, “Harris has a one-point lead among voters under 40, and has narrowed Trump’s advantage among those 65 and older, while Trump’s biggest lead is among voters ages 40-64.”
The pollster also says Trump “leads by a wider margin among men (50% to Harris’s 44%) than among women voters (49% to Harris’s 47%).”
The disparity between polling results from Rasmussen and Emerson College only underscores the broader division between the left and right in the U.S. Most establishment news agencies are more negative about Trump and more positive about Harris, which is reminiscent of how the press treated Trump when he was faced off against Hillary Clinton in 2016.
Meanwhile, in the media’s continued effort to portray Walz as a politician who stood up to the gun lobby, the New York Times has published an article replete with a photo of the Minnesota governor posed with a semiautomatic shotgun.
Writing at the National Review, Robert F. Turner discusses Walz’s recent gun control comments, essentially underscoring what AmmoLand discussed previously about how the Democrats will try to use his background as a hunter, gun owner and former member of the National Guard as a way to promote their gun policies.

Screw the polls and this will be the third time my voting for trump!!!
Can liberals win elections just by celebrating diversity?
Act like Trump’s 20 points down. Then, if the CIA doesn’t kill him, he might just get in the White House.
Small minds are easily distracted by elections, which are rigged/stolen. Until jews are expelled from the west, nothing will change.
commie-la is pantsuit 2.0, who also got trounced by trump back in 2016. if the lame stream media did not provide the propaganda they are she would be way back in the polls. and remember polls are as accurate as the questions in them (they are not). i don’t believe that there are enough stupid people in America that would support this chameleon in a pantsuit. she panders to each and every constituency group you can think of, and she does it poorly. she has had to moderate her position because she “was” as far left as the squad, otherwise… Read more »
The polls are no different than the news agencies that report them. They both lie to produce the outcome of obtaining more low information voters.
Don’t believe the polls. They make no difference, it’s what you learn as you investigate that does and none of your investigations should include the news unless of course it is Americas Real Voice or Newsmax and maybe a little of that leftist news channel Faux that calls presidencies before all the votes are counted.
