In the early hours of Monday, September 23, 2024, a home invasion in Abington Township, Montgomery County, took a violent turn but ended in a justified act of self-defense. The incident unfolded after a woman returned home from a local casino, unknowingly followed by a man intent on robbing her at gunpoint.
The suspect, identified as Khabir Shepard, forced his way into the woman’s home on the 1800 block of Horace Avenue around 1 a.m.
Armed with a handgun, Shepard pushed the woman to the ground and grabbed her purse from the dining room table. The woman screamed for help, waking her adult son, who was asleep in a rear bedroom.
The son, acting to protect his mother, retrieved his legally owned firearm and confronted Shepard. Fearing for his mother’s life, he fired two shots, striking Shepard in the back and arm. Despite his injuries, Shepard fled the home but collapsed on the front lawn, where police quickly apprehended him.
Shepard was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment and was later released into police custody. Authorities recovered the handgun believed to belong to Shepard at the scene.
Following the shooting, Shepard was charged with robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, and carrying a firearm without a license. He is currently being held at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility on $250,000 cash bail.
Abington Township Police Chief Patrick Molloy confirmed that the victim was targeted by Shepard after her casino visit. He emphasized the importance of being aware of one’s surroundings, especially when carrying large sums of money.
“This was not a random crime. The suspect had clearly planned this, and the victim’s son acted lawfully to protect his family,” Molloy said. He also praised the swift actions of both the son and responding officers, noting that this could have ended much worse.
For the community, this incident serves as a reminder of the importance of situational awareness and the value of the right to self-defense.
son needs more range time, glad victims were ok shame perp was not drt
Bigger gun. 12 gauge OO Buck.
Better: RPG. Don’t even need a backhoe.
l Iove a happy ending.
“carrying a firearm without a license” WTF?
PA still has antiquated permit laws, that haven’t been upgraded to Constitutional Carry. Even though we think they are unconstitutional, the permit laws are still on many states books
Bad citizen! bad shooting!!!
shoot till the threat stops…….breathing.
left the POS alive to victimize the public again. Left the
POS alive to cost tax slaves millions in incarceration, medical and future predation (plus allowing him to remain in the gene pool and breed). Left the POS alive so a judge can slap it on the wrist and release it to prey on your family.
We have to do better as citizens and get rid of these POS’s that were “born into middle class families in neighborhoods where they keep their lawns trimmed”
NO reward for this one.
Why the hell would this be down voted??
Down voter should be letting the criminal POS’s live at their house
If it were up to me we would start cleaning up crime by walking through prisons and executing EVERY INMATE, live on video as a message to those that would victimize YOU….or your family or your local convenience store…..
F’ EVERY CRIMINAL A$$HOLE to death.
Too bad this story doesn’t have a happy ending. Now the thug lives to thug again. The boy needs to learn to shoot better or get a bigger gun I don’t know which it is but because the perp isn’t taking a permanent dirt knap, I know one of the two problems exist.
The emphasis on situational awareness is the big takeaway lesson here. Had ‘Mom’ noticed the perp on her trail there’s a good chance she wouldn’t have had such an exciting evening. Regardless, good for her the perp didn’t hurt her or her son, and that Khabir ran instead of ambushing Mom’s hard charging son. Kudos to the lady and her son. Given the likelihood of recidivism after incarceration [assuming he doesn’t luck out with a Woke prosecutor or a police error and walk] the perp may realize his odds of fading away [escaping] might be enhanced by other tactics. Waddathey… Read more »
Let’s be honest here. Most people go through life in a fog, not having the slightest idea f what is happening around them. If Mom had paid as much attention to who was following her as she did to her slot machine, things would likely have been different. Although I do wonder how much she won to get the AHs attention.
