Media Ignores Mental Health to Push Gun Control Narrative

14-year-old Colt Gray killed 4 people in a rampage at the Apalachee High School just outside of Atlanta, Georgia. Colin Gray, the 54-year-old father of Colt, is charged with four counts of involuntary manslaughter, two counts of second-degree murder, and eight counts of cruelty to children for buying the firearm that was allegedly used in the school killing.

Mainstream media has been bending over backward to justify the indictment of Colin Gray for purchasing the firearm, while the public seems to be caught up in this portion of the story. There has been a failure to discuss the true cause of this crime, mental health issues, and an obsessive focus on guns by the media.

In this case, dishonest media outlets have people enraged at the father for purchasing the gun but avoid discussing the fact that the father did not participate in the act of violence. The media also refuses to address the mental instability of the child, a problem that we see much more frequently in recent times. However, focusing on the actual human behavior takes the focus off firearms and might shine a light on some societal issues for which the media might share responsibility. They don’t care about the mental deterioration of our children but really want American gun owners disarmed.

After covering gun-related crimes and firearm legislation for years, it has become glaringly apparent that the political left and its media sources were covering this story in such a way that would set the table to push for more gun legislation. Such legislation might include mandatory, national, in-home lock-up of firearms with inspections or other laws that would make firearm possession impossible for parents of children under a certain age.

Don’t forget, Kamala Harris said, “Just because you legally possess a gun in the sanctity of your locked home, doesn’t mean that we’re not gonna walk into that home and check to see if you’re being responsible and safe in the way you conduct your affairs.”

What better way to garner support for such communist activity than a few more of these cases ending in the conviction of the parents?

I don’t know the answer to Colin Gray’s actions, and I’m not defending him. His behavior may have been completely irresponsible, but holding him accountable for up to 180 years behind bars should be a concern for all parents moving forward. It seems precedence for this type of punishment has already been created when James and Jennifer Crumbley were convicted after their child committed murder with a firearm. Could this be a tactic for the political left to scare parents out of gun ownership or pave the way for normalizing the violation of our 4th Amendment rights?

If a parent can be held responsible for a child’s action to such a degree, would it not lead to parents being responsible for lesser crimes or even non-crimes?

By such a standard, wouldn’t it be possible that eventually, parents would be held accountable for their child physically harming another in a schoolyard fight if, for instance, that parent had either trained or paid for their child’s karate training?

If a standard is set in the courts where a parent is responsible for the actions of the child, shouldn’t parents of gang members also be held accountable when their children commit murder?

The average age of a gang member is 15 years old, yet those parents are never held accountable. Our media praises those irresponsible parents and often positions those killers as victims of society. Why? Because holding them accountable doesn’t move the needle on gun control, and it buys Democrat votes.

I disagree with the writer. Parents are responsible for their children. One thing the writer omits, is the son was online threatening to “shoot up a school”. That was reported and the father and son were visited by the FBI. So, knowing your son has been online and threatening to “shoot up a school” isn’t a red flag for the father to keep guns out of the son’s hands, and try to figure out what’s wrong with him… SERIOUS THERAPY perhaps? Yet the father bought a gun for his son for Christmas. And doesn’t take that gun away from him… Read more »
