The Four Federal Gun Control Efforts Trump Should Dismantle on Day One

Former President Donald Trump has made it clear: if he returns to office, he’ll prioritize dismantling Biden’s extensive web of anti-gun measures and restore Americans’ Second Amendment rights.

Over the past three years, Biden has aggressively expanded the power of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) and pushed for federal controls that infringe upon the freedoms of law-abiding Americans. Trump’s reelection now means a return to a pro-freedom approach, undoing overreaching gun control measures that not only violate our rights but fail to address the real issues behind violence in America.

Here’s how President Trump can protect freedom, restore accountability, and finally stop Biden’s anti-gun crusade.

1. Remove ATF Director Steve Dettelbach & Disband ATF

Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) Director Steven Dettelbach IMG Whitehouse
Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) Director Steven Dettelbach IMG Whitehouse

Biden appointed Steve Dettelbach, a staunch anti-gun advocate, as ATF Director to tighten government control over the firearms industry. Dettelbach’s tenure has been defined by restrictive policies and aggressive targeting of honest gun dealers. Under the Biden administration’s “zero tolerance” policy, the ATF has revoked more licenses this year than any year in the last two decades, punishing even minor paperwork errors. This overreach doesn’t reduce crime; it harasses responsible gun owners and small business owners.

Trump, should immediately remove Dettelbach from office, ending the era of heavy-handed oversight. Instead of enforcing unreasonable restrictions on gun dealers, Trump must appoint an ATF Director who respects the rights of law-abiding citizens and uses resources to target actual criminals instead of honest business owners. Or better yet, fire every ATF employee and disband the entire rouge department.

2. Close the White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention

The White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention is little more than a publicity stunt designed to push Biden’s anti-gun message. Instead of working to address the root causes of violence, this office promotes restrictive policies that treat lawful gun owners like criminals. Created to promote red flag laws and other restrictive measures, it has served as a platform for pushing Biden’s anti-gun narrative.

Trump must dismantle this office and, if anything, repurpose it to support Second Amendment education and training programs [IE: White House Office of Shooting Sports & Gun Safety Education] that empower citizens to defend themselves while increasing the participation in the shooting sports. Real safety comes from responsible, trained individuals, not bureaucratic offices that do nothing but undermine our freedoms.

3. Rescind Biden’s Executive Orders on Guns

Biden has issued more than 50 executive orders related to firearms, each one chipping away at the freedoms guaranteed by the Second Amendment. His disastrous orders have increased restrictions on “ghost guns,” pushed for more background checks, and imposed burdensome regulations on stabilizing braces. These orders don’t stop criminals — they restrict law-abiding citizens who want to exercise their right to self-defense.

Trump must roll back these orders on Day One. By doing so, he would not only end Biden’s assault on gun owners but also send a clear message: American freedoms are not up for debate. These measures have no place in a country built on individual liberty and personal responsibility.

4. Repeal the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act

The Bipartisan Safer Communities Act is one of Biden’s most damaging pieces of legislation. Passed in 2022, it imposes significant new hurdles for gun ownership and redefines when a seller must obtain a federal license. It’s also led to a surge in prosecutions for so-called “unlicensed dealing” — another tactic to limit who can legally sell firearms.

Trump must target this law for immediate rollback, working to repeal or defund its provisions through executive action or by appointing pro-Second Amendment officials who will challenge these policies. Americans shouldn’t face legal threats for simply exercising their rights or helping others to do so.

5. Stop Federal Funding for Red Flag Laws & Anti-Gun Programs

Red Flag Gun Grab Laws
File Photo

The BSCA allocated $13 billion to support anti-gun initiatives, including red flag laws and community violence intervention programs that encourage government intervention in private citizens’ lives. These programs funnel taxpayer dollars into schemes that violate due process and turn friends, family, and neighbors into informants. Red flag laws alone allow the government to seize firearms based on accusations rather than evidence — a clear violation of constitutional rights.

Trump must cut off funding to these programs and ensure that taxpayer money goes toward solutions that respect our rights. Instead, funds could be redirected to bolster local law enforcement, mental health support, and other initiatives that address violence at its roots without targeting law-abiding citizens.

Defending Freedom Over Bureaucratic Overreach

A second Trump presidency means a return to individual rights and freedom. By rolling back Biden’s anti-gun measures, Trump can now restore the balance of power, putting citizens back in control and ensuring that the government respects our freedoms. Trump’s promises to defend our Second Amendment rights are a clear sign that he stands with gun owners, not against them.

Americans who believe in freedom, self-reliance, and responsible gun ownership should rally behind Trump’s mission to undo Biden’s gun control agenda. Now that we have a strong leader dedicated to the Constitution, let us reverse these restrictive policies and keep America safe and free.

If it ” infringes” dismantle it and throw it out ,because it’s unconstitutional.

Wild Bill

Acts of Congress can not just be thrown out or ignored. Congress has to repeal a prior Congressional act or the S. Ct. rule that Act unconstitutional.

Logician

You are wrong there, Wild Bill! If it’s a crime being committed against us, yes, it can in fact be ignored! Do you still really think that the USC/SCOTUS is composed of honorable men and women who do not make mistakes? Do YOU want to be a victim of any of their mistakes?

Wild Bill

Ok, have it your way.

Bill

When you ignore laws and get thrown in jail, what is your recommendation at that point? (This is not to say that blind obedience to unjust laws is always a better way.)

Logician

Well, since either you haven’t been following along, or do not understand what has been said, I would demand to see my hand written and SIGNED guarantee of actually getting a fair trial! What would YOU say, if you were a fake judge in response to that? That such a guarantee cannot be made because the legal system is a criminal cabal? Or just dismiss the case with prejudice? You need to go to the CourtVictim.com website, and read my papers there that expose the crimes of the legal system, such as The UNIVERSAL Get Out Of Jail For Free… Read more »

Jerry C.

Logician, what color is that Crazy-flavored Kool-Aid?

Nick

I don’t get the logic here. You’re saying hypothetically, about some hypothetical judge and case, that the case would be bogus, and the judge corrupt.
Fine.
But you advocate for the hypothetically corrupt judge, to sign a piece of paper guaranteeing you a fair trial…
That doesn’t make sense. If they’re corrupt, why would they sign, let alone abide by any guarantee?

Nick

He seems to be arguing the “sovereign citizen” thing on here, and every other thread he posts on.

Nick

You seem to argue, both on this thread and others, for the thing known as “sovereign citizen”, where a individual, is somehow, a “citizen”, yet “sovereign” and can selectively abide by the law, and court rulings etc.

By the way, that is totally flawed thinking.

gsteele

Yes – a sovereign citizen, who may indeed be sovereign within the meaning of the Constitution’s “We the People” nonetheless has a responsibility to society, just as society has a responsibility to the citizen.

We are not a bunch of random atoms moving about and colliding helter-skelter. We exist within a societal compact, reinforced by many of our social and legal customs and agreements. Each individual has at least some small modicum of obligations to the society as a whole, and at some cost to the individual.

That’s just the way it is, here, now, under a Republic.

Nick

You’re defeating your whole arguement. A “sovereign citizen” according to them, doesn’t have any obligations. Yet, you say they do, yet say a “sovereign citizen” can indeed exist and be legal?
I don’t get it.

And how is the USA today a republic? It was once, but hasn’t been in a century or more.

Tionico

You are correct in this statement. However, the article above is suggesting Trump find ways of defunding the present operation of these nasty bills, an easy way to make them close o useless. THEN take to the courts to dismantle them as unconstitutional.

Wild Bill

Seems like the long expensive way around the block, but he is the boss.

Logician

He’s not MY boss!!

2NDforever

right! WE THE PEOPLE are the BOSSES.
WE MUST act like it!

gsteele

No, he’s the boss of the government’s executive branch.

Nanashi

There’s one big one you missed that will take slightly longer (need confirmations done and that’s it), but is easily done: The NFA and Hughes.

Order the Secretary of the Treasury to declare a 30 day NFA amensty every 29 days, as Congress gave the SotT the explicit power to do. Flood the registry with so many autosears by Drop Table Inc the government runs out of space and the Hughes is neutered.

grewterd

I like it!

Wild Bill

Where is that in the NFA, please.

JohnBored

Transfer the ATF back to Treasury and disarm the ATF along with disarming the IRS.

Wild Bill

Just revoke the memo that created the BATFE. Poof and then there were none.
The Fat Boy Institute was also created by a memo and that memo can also be revoked.

Wild Bill … Then Deport them

Wild Bill

or let them live in America and work for a living. They can work for me at haying time.

Oldvet

Wild Bill … I just didn’t feel they deserve the bennifits of living in this country . Austraila has a nice ring to it or the UK you know Gun Free Places .

Wild Bill

Haiti … yes, they could “volunteer” to go to Haiti to work with the poor.

Bigfootbob

Yes and send that midget Mikey DeWine with them.

Bigfootbob

Seriously? You’d never get your hay in in time.

Tionico

No, ATF need to disappear. No consitutional basis for is existence. Just because we’ve goten used to it does not mean we MUS remain used to it. It is bad stuff, so dump it.

Let the industry manage the quality control and distribution of their products. De Walt and Makita do this quite well with their tools. No FedGov bottom feeders necessary.

Wild Bill

ATF’s authority to exist comes from the Internal Revenue Code, which gets its authority from the 16th Amendment. The BATFE, however, was not created by Congressional Act. The memo that created the ATF can be revoked at any time by the President.

Logician

You need to read Bill Benson’s book, The Law That Never Was, if you can understand what’s in it.

Jerry C.

Separate out Alcohol & Tobacco and put their responsibility back with Treasury where they belong (being as it was initially created as a tax stamp enforcement agency for those 2 items). Transfer 20% of the field agents with them. Transfer most of the remaining field agents to ICE so they can help with the crimigrant round-ups. The remaining assets become the Bureau of Firearms & Explosives Licensing, who will eventually, (once the unconstitutional NFA, GCA, & FOPA are repealed,) be responsible only for issuing licenses to manufacturers and importers on a “shall issue” basis.

Oldvet

Jerry C. Just totally eliminate it it is too corrupt too deep !

Nick

Why not just terminate the ATF. And disarm and defund the IRS?

JMacZ

HELL YES!
Also make the sale of suppressors easier without the fees and wait times. It’s ridiculous.

Tionico

No, simply remove them from the NFA list. No reason. They are not dangerous. Has anyone here ever known of an injury related directly to someone’s use of a suppressor or silencer? What about OSHA regs for hearing noise limits? If this level of sound pressure were ever found in a workplace environment the place would be shut down per FedGov regs. Gunfire with the silly ear muffs or orange foamies stuffed into your ear are not strong enough to protect our hearing, AND they limit our ability to hear often necessary communication when used. The suppressor dampens the noise output… Read more »

the 2nd AMENDMENT must be enforced!
the states have no say and my not infringe.
the CONSTITUTION MUST PREVAIL, no exceptions!

GregWisco

While, I agree that the courts will find these cases unconstitutional. How many lives will be lost/ruined, as they make there way to the Supreme Court?

That’s why they call it “our democracy”, cause it’s theirs, not ours.

“Four Federal Gun Control Efforts Trump Should Dismantle on Day One”
…lists FIVE things.

Wild Bill

The author knows that the new President can not repeal the Safer Communities Act. It is an Act of Congress and needs Congressional action to repeal it. Repeal needs to be done, but it can not be one of the four things that Trump can do on day one.

gsteele

All the above 5 of the “4 federal gun control efforts” cited should be reversed (;-). ATFE has responsibility over Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. Arguably, Alcohol and Tobacco are health-related consumables perhaps best placed under a new regulatory authority in a health- or food-related Agency or Department, or under an agency overseeing drugs. I’m sure there will be screaming debate over which category to place alcohol in. NFA 34-related “firearms” law enforcement either needs outright repeal or placement somewhere under DoJ control, perhaps along with explosives. It seems to me that firearms manufacturing and sales regulations management belongs somewhere… Read more »

Bill

We need to get things done through the Congress, and nail it all down. Dueling EO’s is not the way to go. Which means we need Congress on our side.

Nick

GOA’s the only 2A group I’m aware of that’s even suggested dismantling the ATF. They openly advocate for defunding it into irrelevancy if they can’t get enough support to disband it out right.

It’d be nice if this was something all the 2A groups could come together on, and lobby/sue whatever it takes to get rid of the Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms… By the way, when was the last time they did anything about alcohol or tobacco, or gangbangers? Just a thought.

Logician

There is NOTHING to restore! All that he needs to do, if he has the balls to do it, is tell us the truth, that the legal system is corrupted and cannot be trusted for anything at all, not even to do a good job of scooping up the horse droppings in the corral! Someone, anyone, please point out to me our written guarantee of being treated fairly and equally in ANY part of the legal system! That cannot be done, because it doesn’t exist any more than Unicorns that blow rainbows out of their back end! This proves my… Read more »

Wild Bill

Have you read the equal protection clause of the 14th Amendment? How about the VI Amendment?

Logician

Evidently, Wild Bill, you are sorely lacking in education of the legal system, how it operates. The so-called 14th Am was forced upon us via the Reconstruction Acts, therefor, it is not a valid and binding contract that must be followed blindly. If you knew anything at all about contracts, you would know that there are five ESSENTIAL elements to them, meaning that ALL of them must be there, and if they are not followed 100% in every way, then you just don’t have a contract at all. It’s like the question of how pregnant a woman is, either she… Read more »

Jerry C.

The Constitution is not Contract Law! EVERY Amendment is valid until & unless it is altered or repealed by a subsequent Amendment. You are Chiroptera-feces cra-cra!

Nick

You expect people who don’t believe in the constitution to abide by the constitution?…

Roverray

I don’t think anyone has to tell President Trump that the legal system is corrupt, he has first hand knowledge that it does.

musicman44mag

You know, I was pissed for his keeping the left involved with his cabinet but I think back and realize that it was a good lesson for him because now he knows that the left will not support him, will do everything to destroy him or eliminate him. So because of what he has learned, he has vowed to get rid of all the corrupt officials that he can including leftist judges not enforcing the laws.

After his installment, it will be a new day in America.

Nick

In nearly every post you say the legal system is corrupt. That’s no doubt very often true. But, what ideas can you offer to fix it that don’t dive into hysterics?

grewterd

I disagree on a few points:

“fire every ATF employee and disband the entire rouge department.”

Until the GCA and NFA are repealed, we do need to keep the forms processing at high rate. Turn all of the agents in the field into paper pushers.

Close the White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention
Replace all but maybe one of the anti-gunners, leave someone particularly slimy as a token member, to ridicule and mock. Replace the rest with the most pro-gun people available. Turn the table on them! Then, right before he leaves office, disband it.

Last edited 5 days ago by grewterd
Nick

Why not terminate the ATF, fire all the employees, and burn all the paperwork? No more papers, and no more people to read them in order to create national gun registries.
Processing problem solved.

musicman44mag

Hi Brian. I have one awaiting. Thanks for releasing the ones that were 14, 8 and 4 days old. If you don’t release the one to Nick, from a few days ago, that’s ok with me. I would delete it but I cant see the ones that are pending.

Nick

Oh no, what could you possibly have to say to me?
