Self-Defense Confirmed in Deadly Construction Site Shooting in St. Petersburg ~ VIDEO

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — A deadly shooting at a construction site in St. Petersburg has been ruled as an act of self-defense, according to the St. Petersburg Police Department.

The incident occurred around 1:30 p.m. on a Friday this past October 2024 at a vacant home under construction on Farragut Drive North. Police say a heated disagreement over payment erupted between a subcontractor tile worker and the general contractor, identified as 38-year-old Mostafa M. Ah Abdo.

Witness accounts and police reports reveal that during the argument, the subcontractor began smashing completed tile work in frustration. Abdo then retrieved a firearm from his truck and began threatening the subcontractor. Fearing for his son’s life, the subcontractor’s father, who was also working at the site, intervened by drawing his own firearm and shooting Abdo.

Abdo was pronounced DRT or dead right there.

Police conducted a thorough investigation and determined that the father acted in justifiable self-defense to protect his son. No arrests were made, and the case is considered closed.

The construction site, which had been a hub of activity, turned into a crime scene as detectives collected evidence, including both firearms. A neighbor reported hearing loud noises but initially dismissed them as normal construction sounds.

Florida’s self-defense laws allow individuals to protect themselves or others when faced with a credible threat. As always, these situations highlight the need for de-escalation and responsible handling of firearms in any setting.
