In an unprecedented move to foster legal scholarship and advocacy for the Second Amendment, Smith & Wesson in partnership with the University of Wyoming Firearms Research Center, has launched its inaugural 2A Research & Writing Competition.
2A Research & Writing Competition.
This initiative celebrates the Second Amendment but actively engages the next generation of legal professionals in its defense and scholarly exploration.
Prizes Include:
- First Place: $5,000
- Second Place: $3,000
- Third Place: $2,000
The competition, open to law students currently enrolled in an ABA-approved law school for the academic year -25, seeks to spark intellectual discourse and research on gun rights. With generous prizes of $5,000, $3,000, and $2,000 for the top three submissions, respectively, Smith & Wesson aims to motivate and reward students who contribute meaningful insights and legal perspectives on Second Amendment issues.
This initiative is particularly timely, as the legal landscape regarding gun rights continues to evolve rapidly.
By encouraging a deep dive into the intricacies of Second Amendment jurisprudence, Smith & Wesson is not only funding a contest; it’s investing in the intellectual foundation of future legal battles. Such scholarly engagement is crucial for the pro-gun community, as it helps cultivate a cadre of informed lawyers who can effectively argue for gun rights in various legal and public policy arenas.
Moreover, the competition serves as a platform for law students to showcase their analytical skills and deepen their understanding of a pivotal constitutional issue. This not only benefits the students professionally but also enriches the broader discourse on gun rights, providing fresh perspectives and robust legal arguments that support the Second Amendment.
Smith & Wesson’s 2A Research & Writing Competition is a welcome step forward for the pro-gun community.
It ensures that the constitutional debate around the Second Amendment is vibrant and informed by emerging legal talents who are equipped to defend and articulate the nuances of gun rights in America. As such, this initiative is a win for both the participants and the broader pro-2A community, reinforcing the legal scaffolding that upholds gun rights in the United States.
2024-2025 Smith & Wesson 2A Research & Writing Competition
Great idea but only a measly $10k. $100k should be easy for a corporation this size and they could spread the joy to 5 or 10 students.
good luck to the entrants.
Now this is a great idea! Good job S&W! More gun companies should do similar things.
